50A Smart Plug to 15A / Short Dog Bone

Does anyone know where to find one? I want to use this to plug my camper in while storing it. There is a link on here that take me to most of the major marine supply houses, but I found nothing there either. Thanks for the help.

You might find something like this a bit easier to use:

https://www.amazon.com/Camco-Dogbone...1854002&sr=8-6

I've tried both styles - the one linked to earlier and the kind with the short cord between the two ends. The one-piece adapters always seem to me to put too much weight on the 15-amp outlet for the thing to stay plugged in.

This one has a right-angle plug on the 15-amp end, so it makes it easier to keep plugged in and takes some of the torque off the outlet.

Search for C50044L515P.

Out of stock at eTrailer. They are pricey, so you may want to use your OEM cord with the traditional dogbone at the 15a outlet as the more economical solution.

Get it directly from Airstream. They aren’t that expensive.

Smartplug is the only place I've seen one. West Marine may have them but I would go directly to smartplug.

He clearly stated he does not have the round twist-lock socket on the trailer.
He has a SMART PLUG, this is what he wants.

Here's a link to the plug the OP could use to make one. https://www.bestconverter.com/50-Amp...F50_p_737.html

Before I added more solar to the TerraYacht I would run 15 or 20 amp 120vac for maintenance power, just necked down the standard 50 amp to 30 (adapter came in my rv from the PO) then 30 to 15. I used a short 6' cord, 12 gauge, to reduce pull strain where I am plugged in. The adapters were already in the compartment but direct from SmartPlug is a better approach.

I got a Smart Plug brand one from a marine store. Works perfectly. Also use it to hook to the generator for a quick charge. However, I also got a small 15A surge/power protector with open ground, neutral, low volt, etc shut off. Got that from Amazon. I can get the link if anyone wants it. Better than completely unprotected and the surge/power protector I have is 50A with the regular 50A plug. So to get rid of the heavy plug, I got the cheap 15A protector.

Etrailer has the Smart Plug adapter but they are on backorder. They are scheduled to ship next week.

Rather than lug the power cord out when storing, I just bought and extra smart plug and a standard 25 foot extension cord. It’s about the same weight as a dogbone and easy to store. Less appealing to a thief and a whole lot easier to deploy than the regular power cord.

I just cut the socket end off of the cord and install the smart plug on it

I like this idea. Do I dare ask how to wire it?

Thanks

Its really easy. The plug comes with written instructions on how to wire it. the only caveat is if you are wiring a 50A plug, you have to wire the hot wire (black) to both legs of the plug. If you are wiring a 30A plug, one wire to each leg.

the plug makes it easy. the brass screw holds the black (or red) wire. the silver screw holds the white wire and the green screw holds the green wire.

I bought the smart plug female side that plugs into the trailer and just put a new 15 amp extension cord on it and made my own I never pull out the Anaconda cord at an RV park cuz it's too much hassle I pull out my homemade 15 amp extension cord one and just plug it in they have just a female ends on Amazon

Can you connect the 50 to a 30 adapter, then connect the 30 to a 15 adapter? I connect our 30 to a 15 adapter whenever we're home.

Or maybe I'm missing something in the conversation. If so, then, as Gilda Radner would say, "Never mind."

Both Gander RV and Amazon have them with the 90 degree handle to make it easier on the twist lock. Yeah they are pricy but

I think the original post is referring to the Brand Smart plug the orange new non Factory add-on vs the twist lock factory connecter and what he wants to do with it
