50 AMP Trailer in a spot with 30 AMP hookups?
Hi Folks,
Newbie question here. I searched the forums and found a lot of information about connecting a 30 amp trailer to 50 amp shore power. My question is about going the other direction.
We have a trailer with 50amp service but we were only able to get a site at a park that has 30amp service. Our presumption is that we connect our 50 amp cable to the trailer, connect that to the surge protector, connect the surge protector to the adapter that goes from 50 amp to 30 amp fittings then connect the 30 amp male part of the adapter to the available shore power.
The principle impact will be that we will have only 30 amps of available service so we won't be able to do things like run both air conditioners at the same time.
Also, just being really weird, if we ended up in a site that had only 20 amp household power via 110 we'd just add another adapter from the 30 amp to a standard grounded 3 prong household 110 recepticle. We'd have power but would be able to do very little without tripping the 20 amp circuit breaker.
Am I understanding this correctly? The only things we need to do with adapting to smaller shore power is to step-down the adapter plugs and watch the amount of amperage we pull at any one time?
Thanks,
Spatters
