50 amp surge protector ???
Hello everyone ....
Another newbie question ....
We purchased a 50 amp surge protector for our 2017 Classic, our question is, when I must hook up to a 30 amp service can I use a 30 amp adapter between the box and the 50 amp surge protector? My concern is, does the surge protector only work when it is plugged directly into the power source and with a 30 amp adapter in between am I exposing myself to a problem.
Thank you ...
Jed

I asked the exact same question(s).
From what have been told, yes, you can safely use an adapter or dogbone to go 30A shore to 50A AS. However dogbone length may result in EMS lying on ground which would not be good, so I am just likely going to use an adapter (although I'll probably purchase both).

As MW said you can. Before we changed over to an internal SP we had a 30A external. At one campground the 30A service was flakey giving an error I don't remember now. I used a 50 to 30A dogbone to hook up to my EMS and all worked well, albeit the EMS was just about on the ground. A 30 to 50 adapter would work the same for you.

I purchased a 50 amp female to 30 amp male straight adapter from eTrailer. It is item #A10-3050AVP. I support the attachment with a bungy attached to the surge protector plug and looped over the power pedestal. This setup keeps the surge protector vertical and has worked well for me.

MWBishop;
Use a good surge protector, even if you have to use a bungee to keep it off the ground.
During a lightening storm in Erieau several years ago, mine 'gave up it's life'; saving my Hi'Lo.
So a replacement cost me 180 bucks; cheaper than a fried trailer.

Help!!! Even though I have several surge protectors on different electronics in the home, I have not even thought of putting a surge protector on the Airstream. Is there a particular surge protector needed? Could someone give me the specs needed. We have a 28' Classic with the usual appliances, etc.
Also, would it work to simply set it on a block of wood and I am wondering if it would not need to be protected from the weather. You can see I am totally confused. Thanks.

Oh, I've always used my Progressive Industries EMS-PT30C which saved my RPod one trip on continual low-voltage drops. I definitely plan to get the new PT50X for the AS. Won't connect without one.
Interestingly I've thought of the bungee cord method but not had a chance to try it out. Glad it works and indeed will incorporate into my setup procedures.

We have a 2016 International rear bedroom. Where would it be installed?

MW Bishop. Again, a question re: the surge protector. Should one be specific to use with the Airstream? What and where can the PT 50X be bought? Also, the concern re: it's being off the ground - would sitting the Surge Protector on a block of wood be sufficient? You can plainly see I am a novice in this game. Thank you.

None specific, but it comes down to do you want just surge protection or an Electrical Management System. An EMS costs significantly more but provides more protection. Everyone has an opinion, but you have to decide your own comfort level when protecting you rig. The PT50X can be purchased at Amazon or even on their website where you can read about their EMS (but several companies make them). Don't know about others, but the Progressive Industries units need to be vertical (and off the ground). So an adapter/dogbone and a bungee to pedestal should work just fine.
Ultimately, just do some research and make you own choices.
