50 Amp Furrion & Surge Guard 34950

We bought our surge guard looonng before we got the trailer. The image attached is exactly the version (with the retractable door cover) and what we have found is that the furrion cable "handle" bumps into the retractable door and we can't fully plug in the cable.

First thoughts are to rip the door off, 2nd to remove the "handle" off the cable.......neither are appealing.

I was trying to find like a 1 foot extension but that is just more junk.

Not sure if we can return the surge guard.

Anyone have any thoughts on how to approach this issue? I haven't seen much on the forum about it.

FYI, my 50 amp extension cord fits it fine, but I certainly don't want to have to have 80 feet of power hanging around to "fix" this kind of issue.

arrrrg.......growing pains.........

Thx

I'd try to remove the door. Not sure what purpose it would serve unless you leave the unit plugged into power outdoors and don't have a power cable plugged in. An inclement weather protection device.

I was thinking of using an 18" 50 amp extension dogbone to solve the problem. I don't think I can return the unit so I guess I have to find a creative way to do it.

The door would be nice to help act as a weather guard when plugged in, which is one of the reason I bought it.

I ended up doing this and it is working fine. Kind of strange to add a dogbone, but I can use all the components and cables as designed.

Hopefully this helps someone along the way.

its best to get a hardwired version and place in inside the As in a dry spot, place near the panel.
then its automatic with nothing to lose or forget

When I rewired my trailer, I installed this and love it. works great. The 2 minute delay takes some getting used to though.
