30 amp Plug Differences
I just bought a new generator for home standy use and the 30-amp/120 volt receptacle is of the 3-prong, twist lock design (---similar to my marine plug.) Is there any reason for the difference in design between our Airstream 30-amp 3-prong plug, with the wide flat angled blades, and the twist-lock plug? Can I buy an adapter plug or pigtail to make the connection?

Not a problem. I think the difference is the trailer plug is a NEMA TT-30, and your generator is an L5-30R.

Hello,
go to home depot or lowes or any electrical store and tell them what you want to do and they will set you up. But you should not need 220 in a trailor..

Adapter Pigtail
I bought an adapter to convet the big wide blade 30 amp plug to a regular outlet at Wal-Mart or Camping World. Don't remember.
Buy two. Keep one for when only 15 amp plugs are available. Cut small end off one and head to the Home Depot for a replacement plug to fit the generator.
Never be wanting for juice again.
Tom.

Mark:
Have you seen an adapter that will mate these two different plugs? I'm familiar with the 15 amp adapter - which I normally use at home (---and at rallys!) to keep the batteries charged. I'll admit that I haven't checked out Home Depot yet - 26 miles away - although I do frequent that toy store quite often!.

OK - I visited Home Depot today but all I could find was a female receptacle for a travel trailer - i.e., our standard Airstream plug. I'm not ready to dig into the bowels of the generator just yet to change the plug so I plan to keep looking for an adapter.

Adapter Found
I visited my local RV supply house today and found the conversion plug. Most any RV supply should carry them. Problem solved!

I had a similar situation. I took a regular 30 amp RV extension cord and switched the male end to a twist lock for connection to the generator. That way I can leave the generator mounted on the front of my Excursion, and just run this as an extension cord back to the AS power cord. No fuss, no muss.
