2022 50A Trailer Power Plug

My new 2022 25' FC has a new type of 50A power plug not used until the last year or two on new Airstreams. Name/Model of plug unknown. As I do not use 50A often I am looking for a 50A female (specific to this new plug) to 30A male adapter. I already have a 30A cable so...just looking for the adapter. I called E-Trailer and they do not stock it.

The new shore power cords and inlets are called SmartPlug.

I believe this may be what you need: https://smartplug.com/product/50a-sm...ype-connector/

If that’s not it, browse their site and see if you find what you need. If you don’t find it there, you’ll need to buy the connectors and cables and build the cordset/adapter yourself. I would imagine that would take some electrical expertise, as you’re going from 50 amp to 30, so it’s not a straightforward wiring job.

Good luck.

Jim

I'm in the same hunt.

If you want to cut off the 50A twist connector (RV side) from a 30A cord and attach a 50A smartplug, I was told by smartplug tech support to use BF32. Cord is sized for 30A with a 50A female smartplug. The BF50 is sized for a 50A cord, too big for 30A cord.

Finding it somewhere probably is tougher. Randy at best convertor is trying to source for me.

I ended up purchasing a 30amp camco power cord and replaced the female end with a 50amp smart plug. I had to add a jumper to make both legs hot. It works really well, use it all the time. This photo was taken today.

This sounds like a good solution but the picture of the BF30 appears to a three pin Smartplug not a 4 pin. My trailer has a 4 pin male. Does Smartplug make a 4 pin with one of pin dummied out?

I think I'm missing something. Why not get a 30A plug to 50A receptacle adapter. Essentially it would go between the pedestal and your existing 50a cord.

Something like this

If the trailer has 50 amp service, why would you want to use a 30 amp cord?

Disclosure: I have a 30 amp cord with a 50 amp end. I got it for the storage room where I have 30 amp power, but I don't routinely use it at parks.

I made my own cord, a 30 amp cord with a 50 amp smart plug end. Others have done, here is the link:

https://www.airforums.com/forums/f42...on-224984.html

I ordered a mighty cord (30 amp) from etrailer, a 50 amp head from smartplug and this is the best (slightly expensive) part, a 30 to 50 cord seal kit from Hodges Marine https://www.hodgesmarine.com/smapkf3...a50a-conn.html

That way the 50 amp head is sealed water tight on the 30 amp cord.

I love only having to pull out the small (30 amp) cord when I don't need 2 AC's, it is a easy DIY job.

I was looking for a solution to ditch the 50amp cord. Most of the time, I only need 30amp.

The 50A cord is very heavy and can get unworkably stiff in cold climates. Since I only use 50A service when operating both AC's I do not need most often. I have a 30A cable I just need a "Smartplug" to adapt from trailer 50A to female 30A.

Understand the heavy wire thing.

However, you are most likely using more than 30A total at times and not knowing it, even when running only one A/C unit. Remember, 50A service is a bit if a misnomer, you actually have 100A, 50A on each leg.

With 30A service, you will be consuming a significant portion of that power running one A/C, the hot water heater and compressor refrigerator. Turn on a microwave, hair dryer, toaster or some other appliance or charging a depleted battery from running the compressor refrigerator while traveling and odds are that you would be taking a walk to the pedestal to reset the breaker. Be ready to do some manual load balancing.

We only have one A/C unit and are careful to initially run the hot water heater on propane when setting up camp on a hot day to give us some headroom on the power consumption.

Okay, that makes sense.
My grey 50 amp cord made exactly one trip in the Airstream and now resides in the garage. I knew from previous RV's that the 50 amp cord Airstream uses is a beast. So I replaced it with a 50 amp 'mighty cord' from e-Trailer. I got the one with a right angle plug so the weight doesn't pry down on the trailer.

Not sure if that's available on the "Smart plug".

You guys ditching the Grey Anaconda are missing out on the daily upper arm and wrist exercises. The Airstream Workout Plan is free, and includes your power cord, stabilization legs, equalizer hitch, propane tank fill and all those interior deep knee bends.

BF32 is the one you want. Go to the drop down to see it.

A little too cryptic for me to translate.

Yah didn't hit the quote and was referring to a post above saying they could only see the 30amp on the SmartPlug web site. Alcohol may have been involved in my mishandling the reply.
