2021 Norcold Fridge in Globetrotter not cooling
Hi all. After my year-long trip I’m parked at a friends place, been plugged in for 2 weeks and took the shore power off to spend a few days letting the batteries drain and charge again.
I realized my Norcold fridge stopped cooling. There is power, the light comes on when you open the fridge door and there is an audible sound of it working - but not cooling.
I checked the fuse, put the trailer in storage mode and turned back on. Plugged back into shore power, turned fridge on/off and increased the cooling setting to level 4.
Temperatures here are pleasant (74/58) so that shouldnt be an issue either.
Any idea what else I can do?

Hi. I have same issue with Norcold DC fridge having power, light on, I can hear fan. But no cooling. What did you figure out with your fridge?

It had to be replaced. Technician followed all required tests and the manual recommended a new fridge.
Be careful, if it’s in warranty, Airstream needs your shop to fill out a Norcold form to apply for warranty. Only once it’s approved they can look for a replacement (which there are none of in the US). So I had to opt for the new Dometic one as I needed a running fridge asap, and Airstream then refused to pay for it as I didn’t follow proper procedure.

This is a horrible story — about a $130,000 trailer still under warranty. I have liked Airstream trailers my entire life and owned three of them but, sad to say, it is becoming increasingly difficult to like the company.

Agree, they pulled the same trick on me with my Dexter brake drums. Airstream now blames the suppliers and they shift the responsibility on you and the repair shop. The repair shop asks for your card as a “deposit” but once they fixed your issue and you’re gone they have no incentive to be dealing with the admin. They all throw the consumer under the bus.

Thank you.
I am planning on contacting NORCOLD first and trying to work with them direct since they have closer locations. Did you go through Airstream?
Would you share model info on the Dometic? How has it performed and does it fit without modification?

That’s the silver lining: the Dometic is far superior, much more storage, no noise and looks much better too. This is the model I got, there is one that perfectly fits into the space. My guy had to make a tiny modification around how the little cabinet above the fridge closes.

Had a mobile RV repair service come look at the NORCOLD. They have seen other failures of the NORCOLD DC. It is a joke that with such a large investment one of the key items, a refrigerator, the customer only gets a 1 year warranty. The NORCOLD manual says 1 to 2 years "depending on the model". DOMETIC is 2 year.
Buyer beware!
