20/30 amp shore power to 50AMP AS

So; still learning, but if I have a distance to cover that my 25' 50AMP wont make.... lets say I have a 30 amp pedestal, do I "dogbone" (30 to 50) then attach my surge protector then my 50 amp cord? Or let say its a 20 amp pedestal - dogbone 20 to 30 then dogbone 30 to 50 , then surge protector then my 50 amp cord.
**Surge protector is a HUGHES 50 amp -POWER WATCHDOG

I've only had a few trips under my belt and have all been with 50amp pedestals, but I now I'll expanding my trips and be prepared/knowledgeable.

You have it right except I bought a 15/20amp to 50amp to eliminate one dogbone. When the trailer is in storage, which is 15amp, I just use a surge protector and regular extension instead of the big cord and EMS.

If your EMS is a 50-amp model, then yes, the dogbone goes between the pedestal and the EMS.

Carry a selection of 90-degree dogbone adapters so you only have to use one, as mentioned earlier. The 90-degree adapters are much less likely to be pulled out by the weight of the EMS.

We also carry a length of 1" flat webbing strap which we use to strap the adapter into the pedestal to make sure it stays put. There is a bunch of weight hanging in it so it's good to make it secure.

Dang, you guys are the best....I told my wife this morning i wanted to be clear on this and I'd ask Air Forums and get the answers by lunch.... you all never disappoint and thank you very much!!1 I currently have a 20 to 50 dogbone and 30 to 50 in my toy box so I think I'm good to go.....I think I'll get the 90 degree dogbones, they are cheap .. I like that idea

Straight through plug adapter

BML, you may want to check out the Progressive Industries 30-50A plug adapter vs. a dog bone for your EMS. This helps keep the WatchDog off the ground.

I used the dog bone when we had a Progressive 50A EMS before finding this straight through adapter. I use it now at home where we have a 30A shore power outlet.
