1963 Bambi Electrical Box?

Hi

I am an art conservator working at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The 1963 Bambi trailer we have in our collection has recently suffered damage upon moving. The electrical box was broken and we are attempting to replace it with a similar model. I would appreciate any assistance that anyone has to offer. I have included a photo as reference.

Hi,

You don't want to keep a damaged trailer in such a prestigious institution - just sell it to me.

Sorry - couldn't resist - welcome to The Forum. Someone with a Bambi will be along shortly to help you I'm sure. In the meantime I thought you might find this useful.

I do not own a bambi - but I have seen quite a few. That said - I belive that is an aftermarket addirion to the Bambi to allow it to utilize modern towing electrical connections. This is not an uncommon modification.

Looks like the screws are sheered off and the cover is esentially undamaged. Have someone drill out the old screws and put new ones in.

BTW - did you beat the individual who damaged the trailer and do you have photos of that?????

Oh yes, Welcome to the forums - can we please have photos of the Bambi in its new location. We love photos here and on as famous as this Bambi needs lots of photos......

The face plate itself is broken. The screws attach on the sides where the lips are. One of these lips has ripped off from the break making attachment impossible. The broken lip can be seen in the picture (upper left).

Hi Ipifly:

That is a custom electrical box made solely for stationary display purposes. It is not found on production model vintage Bambis, so you'll never find another.

I bet someone from your displays department or in house building and grounds maintenance shop can easily repair it. Unscrew the front panel, remove it [it looks like aluminum] and pound it flat with a hammer. Touch up as necesary with black spray paint. Cut and mount a new vertical aluminum angle along the right hand side, drill it and screw on the repaired front panel. You should then be good to go. Next time you move the Bambi, just remember to lift it's front end a little higher. Good luck!
