12v bulb numbers for 1964

What are the correct 12v bulbs (original and current numbers) for use in 1964 Airstream?
Tail/stop lights (Bargman 99)
Running lights (Bargman 48)
License plate light
Porch light
Interior ceiling lights
Interior cone reading lights

Are all replaceable with LEDS?
I’ve read the threads about tail light LEDs, LED directionality, bulb sources.

I’d like to replace running light bulbs and a few interior bulbs with LEDs for night use.

I simply don’t know what the correct original bulbs are.
Can someone help me with a list of bulb numbers please?

Tail and brake lights are #1157
Running lights are #57
I am not sure about the tag light, it SHOULD be a #57 also.
The porch (scare) light is #1157
Interior lights should be #1141, or #1156
The lights are replaceable by LED's as assemblies only, and the running lights won't look the same as what you now have. The Bargman taillights, however, are available in LED from Inland, and I think I saw them at Vintage RV, also.
The interior lights need to be "wide angle" in order to illuminate the largest area, and won't be the best in the world. I have tried them, and didn't like them. Maybe flourescents for the interior would be better, if you can find some suitably vintage looking fixtures.

Not one bulb in my AS has a number on it. Some say GE but that's it.
Most are mising or badly corroded.

License plate light socket is larger than running lamp, smaller than taillight.

I figured LEDs wouldn't work right in most of my applications.
Perhaps in the wedding cake tailights or inside for night light.

John, those are the ones in my '63, so they should be the same in yours. They fit from 1950's through mid 60's, and beyond, depending on the socket in the clearance lamp assembly. If someone changed them to the plug-in type, you would need a #194.
Also, the larger base bulb for the tag light would probably be a #67.

Is there any difference other than price, between an 1156 bulb and an 1141? They both seem to be the same brightness, and both work in the fixtures. The 1156 bulbs are $1.99 for a card of two at Ace Hardware, and the 1141s are $2.49 for a card of two.

It appears the 1141 is only 21 candlepower (cp) while the 1156 is 32 cp. See: Peterson Manufacturing Company

Everyone needs to be cautious about using the correct bulb. If you put too high a wattage bulb in a fixture that was not designed for it, you can start melting the plastic covers or discoloring them over time.

I think that happened to a lot of the scare lights.

Thanks Safari Tim and 47WeeWind. I have changed out the 1156 for an 1141 when I found them at Ace Hardware, because I was afraid that there was something that I wasn't seeing. When I did have one fixture with one of each bulb in it (only for two nights), the 11 cp difference between each end wasn't apparent.

It is appearant in battery life, those lower wattages will allow for longer boondocking time. And yes, I distorted a scare light lens with too high a wattage bulb.

I just posted in the LED conversions thread about replacing the bulb in the teardrop running lights with a PCB-based LED. But that did not re-use the existing bulb base.

Also posted there about trying out an LED array in the overhead fixtures - not bright enough and too cold for me.

I replaced the taillights on my '64 Overlander with LED taillights from InlandRV (as the lenses on my originals were pretty bad, and V.T.S. didn't have the replacements for my particular model):


I like them and the size is exactly the same. They're not wedding-cake style but they look very similar. I don't think they look out of place at all.
(The clearance lights in that picture are still incandescent, and the license plate light is missing.)
