Well I'm about to look at an AS and the owner does not know what it is. Can anyone tell he thinks it is a 27'. He did say that it is a 1972. If there is anything you could say about a 1972 27' AS please let me know. I would like to know what I'm getting my family into. Notice I said family because we are all going to work on it.

Welcome to the forums.
It looks like it could be an Overlander (27'). The easiest way to tell is from the trailer's VIN. It will tell you the size, year, layout and the plant it came from. 72 Overlanders are nice units. It would not have a grey water tank (too early). I would check the axles and the condition of the floor for rot. The area at the rear of the unit was subject to water because of thee design of the bumper.

It's definitely no newer than a '72, that was the last year for the style of a/c shroud in the pictures.
There aren't enough windows on the sides for it to be anything longer than a 29', and it looks shorter than that. Also looks like a rear-bath unit, check carefully for rotted wood at the very rear. It also has a Care-Free main awning, rather than a Zip-Dee.

The more I look at the pictures, the less I think it is an Overlander. The exhaust for the stove is on the wrong side and there are too many windows on the street side. Could it be 25' and not 27? The windows, exhaust vent and water heater location look more like a 71 Trade Wind, I am just not sure about the size.

I'm also looking at the pictures, and from personal experience I can say an Overlander would be a lot longer than the pickup sitting next to it. Looks like it's about 5 feet longer than the truck, and the truck is probably about 18 feet long. Add 3 feet for the tongue, and you've got a trailer roughly 25-26 feet long. It could be an Overlander, but I agree the kitchen vent is on the wrong side.

Caravanner? The kitchen vent would be exactly where the one pictured is... About 25' long, fridge on the left, stove on the right, a gaucho down the left side, one across the front, and a rear bath.

There should be a plate next to the door listing the model. Also a plate with the serial number from the serial number you can tell when it was made, where it was made and the original configuration.

Well after a ton of talking he told me that it is definately a Overlander. He said that the box is 24' something inches. Does that make sense that it might be 25' instead of 27'? I cant wait to see it but cannot since the owner is out of state for a couple of weeks.

He now is telling me that it is 27' from tounge to bumper and that on one side of the trailer a sticker says "land yacht". So, could was there such thing as a 24' land yacht? I'm confused because I'm new at this, so now I will do research on a land yacht. He said the that the bathroom was definately in the back.

A 24' shell would equal a 27' bumper to ball meaning an Overlander. I looked at a few more photos and found that the 1970 Overlander looks to have the same windows, stove vent and water heater location as the pictures you posted.

Welcome to the forum! And good luck with the investigation and inspection. A thorough inspection is very important. Also check with the owner and find out if he has a title. The title would provide an additional source of information and should also contain the previous owner, the year, model and VIN number. You'll also need a title if you decide to purchase. Keep us posted!

The term Land Yacht is confusing. It is a product line not a model. There were 3 product lines: standard (which I have never seen) Land Yacht and International. In 1972 Glove Trotters 21', Safaris 23' and Trade Winds 25' were Land Yachts. Overlanders 27', Ambassadors 29", and Sovereigns 31' were International Land Yachts. To further confuse everybody some years latter AS started making mohos called Land Yachts.

The Squarestreams were also badged as Land Yachts. In that case it was a model name.

I think that you are looking at the picture I posted to show what a 70 Overlander looks like. The pictures posted by fourfauls did not show the axles.

No, I was looking at the first set. I am practicing for when I become an axle distributor... I can see clearly the 70 you showed needs then too. I caution you against towing that 70 anywhere, those axles are shot.

Axles are not visible to make that determination. Fourfauls, if you can see at least 3-4" of tire above the wheel/rim then you are OK.
