What Do the Numbers Mean?

Hi, everyone. I'm relatively new to the Airstream lifestyle, fulltiminmg it in a used 27' Safari for the past 6 months or so. So far, so good, but everywhere I go, people ask me what the red numbers mean at the head and tail top of the AS, and I don' know what to tell them. I assumed for a while they may have something to do with AS rallies, but now I'm not so sure. And I've also noticed that a lot of the other Airstreams I've seen on the road have exactly the same uniformly sized red numbers too so am wondering if it's something that comes out of the factory. Any hints? Thanks in advance.

membership ID number in the WBCCI, or "Wally Byam Caravan Club".

otherwise known as "The airstream club".

Originally intended to identify club members whan "caravanning", but also IDs us at rallies.

Like those Big Red numbers?

You can buy a set for yourself for $55 per year plus local dues and enjoy up to 1,500 events you can chose to come to. Events fees are kept at breakeven no profit and mostly volunteer labor. If you like funny hats, you can one of those too. Pink flamingos are also in vogue and less costly.

You can also change them to any number you want. How about your cell phone number , or just something catchy like, 999 or ..... Of course if you join the club they will want you to use the number they give you . But if you keep the number you pick for yourself then you will meet alot of people when you go to rallies who belong to the numbers police . Actually if no one has your current number you could likely have it if you ask . There is a book every year that has a list of the numbers and who they are assigned to.

Good grief. Tact police, beret police, flag police, teen queen police, and now numbers police? What? They carry the book with them looking for fraudulent numbers? Oh, the shame.

Cool I think....

that's called Airstream Marshall Law.

I'd be happy if we could just get done enough to put our numbers on.

If I drop my membership will the number police come and take my numbers off? How about the ghost numbers from the PO? Will the flag police take down my vintage flag? Are there badge police who come and rip badges off of our chests? We never made it into the directory this year, even though we paid our dues on time, so I guess the directory police will not have to erase our names.
