We've been talking about getting an Airstream for SO long and we finally did it! We are the proud new owners of a 16' Bambi Sport. We bought it at Can-Am RV in London Ontario and towed it home on the I90 with a Golf TDI. We met some awesome 'streamers along the way and are looking forward to meeting more.

Welcome, and congrats on the new purchase.
Hope it doesn't leak out there in the west coast winter rains.
Pictures are always good.

Welcome,
My wife and I love Tofino!

We try to make it up every November and stay at "The Wick", and have our arrival night dinner at the Shelter.

Always thought it would be fun to drive up and camp at Pacific Rim sometime.

From the mainland....welcome!

Your dealer is a long ways away; just curious as to why you didn't buy it from the dealer in Langley.

Aside from that, you'll have a blast 'streaming the Island.

Hope your Bambi is water-tight; those westcoast rains will soon prove otherwise.
Make sure you inspect all the seams for any leakage, and get them rectified asap.

Brought my trailer home during the wettest Spring on record and discovered it had a small leak in the bathroom wall seam, but the dealer has since fixed it.

Don't let that discourage you. I just returned from my shakedown cruise and everything...I mean absolutely everything worked perfectly. Ran into a mountain monsoon and no more leaks. I am very happy with my trailer now.

BTW....your trailer will meld well with the surf culture there -
but I think you already know that.

Hello everyone! Thanks for the welcome We initially just went it to 'look' while passing through on vacation and ended up buying. Part of the reason it made sense for us is because we wanted to tow with a smaller vehicle. They specialize in custom hitches. We are towing with a Golf TDI and had no issues even in the mountains. We even passed people!! The savings on fuel has been incredible.

Thanks for the all heads up on the water situation. We found a small leak while staying in it at the dealers and they took care of it. Since then it has survived a couple monsoons so hopefully with proper maintenance we should be okay. Definitely something to stay on top of living in a rainforest!

Hey Steamy1...look us up when you're in Tofino! Can't miss us

A surfboard on the roof rack.....perfect!

Mojave, visiting the Tofino/Uculet area with the AS is on my bucket list. Can you recommend any RV parks/campsites?

Hey Fly at Night, I've hung out at Green Point in Pacific Rim National Park (seasonal) and that was pretty sweet, and have tented at MacKenzie Beach Resort (open all year). This was pre-RV so I didn't take into consideration things I would now when looking for RV friendly spots. Both I'm sure would be fine but book REALLY far in advance if you are visiting during the summer months. People book sometimes a year ahead. There are some spots at MacKenzie that are RIGHT at the water too so try for those first would be my suggestion. Let us know when you plan to be here so we can say hello!

Mojave,

I think we ran into you just a few days ago on I-90 near Superior, MT at a rest stop. We were pulling our 25 FB with a gray Tundra and my wife mentioned that we were on our way back from the Albuquerque Balloon Festival.

Was that you? All I remember is a new Bambi, a VW TV and an Ontario plate somewhere.

Congratulations on your sweet Bambi, Lisa and Paul (from another Lisa and Paul!). We hope to see you at a rally some time soon. In July, the Wally Byam club (WBCCI) will be having a Region 10 rally in Alberta. It's a way for you to go, but it will be a big rally, so the trip will be worth it. Have lots of fun with camping.

That looks like a fabulous set-up. Congratulations! We had our minivan set-up at CanAm and bought our Argosy from them - good folks.

Is the Golf a manual or DSG? Just curious.

Congrats on your new Airstream! I hope you have a blast traveling in it.

l love my Tradewind, but I would also like to own a vintage Caravel. I would tow it with a TDI just like yours.

Just curious, but how much did the Bambi affect your fuel economy? What was your milage east without the Bambi versus west with the Bambi?

I hope to make it out to BC someday.

Hey mutcth, it's a DSG...we're both typically manual drivers but automatic has definitely made more sense for towing. Yes, the folks at CanAm were great to us!

Hi TouringDan, we bought the car specifically to tow the airstream so we only have towing stats. We got about half the manufacturers numbers when towing.
Please look us up when you get out to BC!

Happy travels,
Lisa
