to the new owners:
Congratulations to the new owners! You're gonna love it.
ps: so that when you post, people will know what trailer you have, why not modify your profile so that it appears there?
Have a look almost at the top, in the dark blue horizontal bar: there is a link to your "User CP" at the left side. If you don't see it, look at it on a PC.

Newbie here and plan on purchasing my AS this spring. As a Total newb I am wondering if there is a section for us noobs where we can get together and learn as we go. I have heard the term "Freewheelers" and wondered how to join? Any and all input will be appreciated.

We just got her home! She is a 2008 Safari 23 ft, FB SE. She is our first trailer and we are so happy to finally have our dream Airstream! Of course, we got the call that she was ready to pick up right in the middle of having the exterior of our house painted. But we are so lucky to have the best neighbors in the world and they offered to let us park in their RV spot, out of the way of the painters. We will be looking for a place for our maiden voyage soon. We live in the Northern California foothills and it looks like most of the campgrounds in the mountains east of us, towards Lake Tahoe, are closed for the winter. So we'll probably be heading for the coast. Any suggestions of a good spot for first-time Airstream owners would be greatly appreciated! We're so excited to finally be part of the Airstream family!

I would recommend staying at a full hookup campsite first so you can test out the holding tanks capacity vs your water usage. Fill up the water tank and use the water pump. That way if you fill up your holding tanks before you leave you can then dump them and if you use all your water you can refill your water tank and make changes to your usage patterns. Once you get an idea then you can camp where there are no hookups or where there is just electricity. Also you can test out the black water flush system at a full hook up site and then dump.

Watch the Gauges
Welcome Gail! Congrats, get ready for the many new adventures you'll have!!
While you are getting acquainted with your ''new to you'' A/S, it wouldn't hurt to keep an eye on the gauges to make sure they are working properly. I'd guess the new tank sensors are different now but with the older ones, toilet tissue could get hung up on the sensor, rendering it useless after a while. We discovered that first hand on our first rally about 12 yrs ago. The toilet wouldn't flush and we didn't know why. So much for watching gauges, it seems the tank was FULL TO THE BRIM. No harm, just the pain of hitching up again and heading to the dump station. Hint: do use RV tissue as it's designed to dissolve/break down in the tank along with the deodorizing blue stuff. Word of the day is frugal, as in "don't put any more in the waste tanks than you have to when you have no sewer hook-up." Our 1975 T.Wind, "Cupcake", will be 40 y/o in Feb.
Enjoy ~ S

We live in Sacramento, for the maiden voyage, I would recommend Collins lake near Yuba city, full hook up, except sewer,Jackson rancheria in Jackson, full hookups, or olema park near Novato. Full hook up except sewer. Our favorite is halfmoon bay, state beach they are now just installing , full hookups. Check on line. Have fun

Welcome. A great place to interact with Airstreamers and gain hands on knowledge is at a rally. You might check the rally page here on the forums, and also reach out to the local WBCCI unit for activities. Typically lots of different trailers, lengths, models, years. Depending on the climate, many groups are in winter hibernation right now.
This forum is loaded with many knowledgeable folks, eager to help. Just reach out. And enjoy yourself.

Hello, we are considering purchasing new 25' International - we're first time RVers and this is a part of my retirement plans. We are looking at Jeep Grand Cherokee V8 as towing vehicle. Are we headed down the right path?

Gail-
Welcome to the world of shiny things and adventure travel.. Another vote for a full-hookup RV park to get started, with a store for supplies and fellow campers for "guidance".. We have friends in Auburn (Lake of the Pines) and there is a nice RV Park north of Grass Valley (may try to sell a space, but not necessary..). Down closer to the ocean there is a KOA near Santa Cruz overlooking the ocean and is pretty nice. Avoid Marina Dunes closer to Monterey as awfully expensive and cramped.. Pelican Point near half Moon Bay also pretty cramped, and State Beach in HMB is nice but limited hookups.. The two private RV Campgrounds in Big Sur are nice but very tight to drive through, and I'd save those for when you get more comfortable maneuvering...
And RickP21 - You are on an OK path, but need to be sure big engine and tow option pkg on vehicle, and then make sure dealer supplies and installs and sets up anti-sway capability for Jeep/Trailer, as shorter wheelbases more prone to wiggle than longer ones.. Lots of people here use them to tow from Bambi's to 25's, but search using key word "Cherokee" above for threads with stories of successes and challenges...

Gail, Welcome!
Here's a thread about Norcal Camping. We really like Wrights Beach on the Sonoma Coast State Beach but there are no hook ups. http://www.airforums.com/forums/f288...nia-61711.html
Have Fun!

Hello Everybody:
We just ordered a 2015 Classic this week and it is due for delivery in March. Needless to say we are excited.
We are also thankful to this forum, since we used it extensively while we were deciding what to buy.
We do not have a tow vehicle yet, so we'd like your opinion. To pull a 31' Classic, would you choose the new Ford 150 with the max towing package and 3.5L twin turbo, or a Ram 2500 diesel? It would be great to hear your experience with either.
Thank you in advance...
John, Laura, plus Juliana and Nathaniel (aka the twins).

There is no perfect tow vehicle, and significant downsides to every option.
I tow with a half-ton SUV (GMC Yukon), and I'm about at my payload limit, so I have been test driving some pickups. I was appalled at how bad the ride was, when test driving the 3/4 ton trucks. The Ram I drove was a 2500 crew cab with 6.4L engine and regular springs (not the air spring option). My wife has back problems and she was on the phone making an appointment with her chiropractor before we got the truck back to the dealership!
The F-150 rides better but with a heavy trailer like the Classic, it is easy to run out of payload capacity. And it is easy to get fooled when buying a 1/2 ton truck. You can find a table of payload capacities on the web or in a brochure when you are shopping, and think you are OK, and then find out you don't really have that payload after you buy the truck. The problem is, the published numbers are based on the most optimistic assumptions--the smallest engine, the lowest trim line, and no options. People towing trailers with their families usually choose the biggest engine, higher trim lines, and at least some options. So before you buy an F-150, be sure to look at the payload number for the actual truck, which is located on a sticker on the driver's door frame.
For 2015 the F-150 does have higher payload numbers, so you might still be OK going that way.
Enjoy your Classic! And good luck on the truck hunt.
