Securing AS and ProPride
Greetings all. Newbie here with a 27’ FC due to be delivered in early February. We can’t wait for our AS to get here!
After reading through a lot of threads about hitches and sway elimination, I decided to go with a ProPride.
The question I have for all you experts is do I need to secure the ProPride in any way in order to secure the AS while it’s stored at the outdoor (secured) storage facility?
Thanks!

ProPride hitches are such an anomaly that a “common thief” would not know what was needed or how to hook it up.
I thought about designing and building a locking plug for mine but after having it I do not feel it necessary.

Good insurance is your best thing to have. A determined thief will just wrap the safety chains around their bumper and take the trailer.

Don't be misled the safety chains can very easily be wrapped around a tow hook and your Airstream is gone gone gone gone. My suggestion is to do what I do - remove the safety chains. This can be done using adjustable chain links. Then get two Trimax wheel chock locks for two of the wheels that way if it can't roll it can't be stolen. Also you can remove the fuse in the positive side to your jack.

We have long used two combination padlocks to secure our Hensley hitch and the same method would work for a ProPride. With the stinger in the hitch and the over-center latches closed, one padlock goes through the safety pin hole for one of the over-center latches. We drilled out the hole in a long hitch pin to fit the second padlock. That hitch pin goes through the hitch-pin hole in the stinger and the padlock goes through the drilled out hole.
Are our simple padlocks truly theft deterrents? Probably not, but when our trailer is parked, the padlocks are in place in the hope that they will discourage easy theft. Makes us feel better and we would use the locks in a secure storage facility.

Just take the stinger with you. If a thief comes with a stinger they are pretty determined.

Securing AS and ProPride
Meh. Risk is so low and it they want it they’ll wrap chains and drag the it off. I don’t bother (plus my storage facility is well secured in a low risk area).
A boot would be the best defense of you are seriously concerned. It you really want to go crazy throw 4 boots on the thing with an obnoxious loud motion alarm!

I do not worry about it. The facility should have some security and you should have insurance. My facility manager has moved my trailer quickly in spite of the pro pride hitch or lack of stinger. I am sure a thief could as well.

Welcome to the Airstream owner's community. I believe you will find these Forums fun and informative. I sure have over the years.
The Airstream is very secure here in Colorado. You just need a couple of feet of snow on the storage lot.
I have a pro-pride hitch and find it very good. No problems noted over the last 6 years. It is a bit of a hassle to leave the trailer at a service place as they have no good way to move it around. I have carefully dropped the pro pride off the coupler of the trailer so the shop can slide their lift truck fork between coupler and hitch and lift that way. I strapped the pro pride up so it wouldn't drag on the ground. Service manager was satisfied.

Thanks for your insight David.
I don’t think I’ll ever have that snow deterrent down here in Texas!

I would recommend that you get the ball hitch accessory to put on the Propride hitch. It allows the Airstream with the propride to be towed on a ball. Costs about $125. On their website. I carry it just in case.
