San Diego first timers

Hello all! We were looking to buy a trailer for my young family and learned that Airstream is the way to go. We're picking up our 2010 30' Flying Cloud next week. (btw, I'm trying to fill out my profile page and the 30' FC isn't listed)

I heard there was a great thread somewhere on this site about common delivery problems and what to ask for and expect from the dealer at pickup. I found info for used trailers. Can anyone help me find this thread for new?

We're new to RVing, towing and everything else. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome from 92107

Looks like we are neighbors. I don't have any info on delivery of new AS. The advise I have is take it slow while towing until you've done it a few times. It's not worth a dent. We have places to go that are close by that you can take the family out and the AS to practice with the systems. Mission Trails Park is very close and is easy to get in and out of.

Greetings and WELCOME TO THE FORUM!

We bought ours new from an AS dealer and had an absolutely wonderful experience. The dealer (no longer an AS dealer BTW) did a terrific job introducing us to our new rig (2005 19' Bambi). If you're buying new from a reputable dealer, I can't imagine you will have a bad experience. Congratulations on your new rig... Sounds like a wonderful trailer. I agree with OB Bambi - recognize that you have a ton of additional weight on the back of your TV and take it slow! Leave a 4 second interval between you and the car in front of you at a minimum and don't let your pride keep you from having someone assist in the parking process by standing outside to direct your movements. Messing up can be very expensive and heartbreaking! Be patient! Don't let you nerves ruin your trips --- and get busy camping!

Hope your new rig is everything you are hoping for. More important, at least for us, I hope you guys find the tripping to bring your entire family to a new found joy and "closeness". To this day our kids (now fully grown) quickly identify the "best times we ever had together" as camping on our family vacations! What a blessing!

ENJOY!

One thing I'd suggest is get it out pretty quick. Chula Vista KOA has nice big pull through spots, and Pechanga has large spots. They could make a good first destination. Both are nice RV parks.

Welcome to Airstreaming. One of the most helpful things we've done was to make a large index card for the glove box with our "check-list" to go over before we take off. It's all simple stuff (ie: wheel chocks, antenia, checking fridge food, stairs up, etc.), but double checking has saved us several times. Also, Dos Picos park in Ramona is another nice close park.

Recommend you get over to Borrego Springs this winter. It's a treat you will not forget. There are some great campgrounds in the mountains not far from Alpine also. I can't remember the specific sites, but enjoyed them as a kid and that kind of fun led me into RVing today.

Lug Nuts!

Never trust that the lug nuts are tight when you didn't tighten them yourself. Check before you leave and then check after 50 miles of towing. We have seen tires fly off other trailers and had it happen to us once when we didn't check them after having a new set put on. Didn't take but once to learn that lesson.
