Hi, as a new person to this A/S Forum, I would like to know if you have used these people or seen any of their work:

Craig Dorsey, David Winick or Dayton Taylor

I can do some work myself, but there is other stuff I'm not about to try on my own. Any other recommendations will be appreciated. Ken

Hi and welcome to the forums. I have heard and seen work from the first two guys but am not familiar with Dayton. Tell us more about him. Both Craig and David do great work and have innovative ideas.

Hi Brad and thank you for the welcolming. I know little on all three guys. I e-mailed all three and telephone them last week, but Dayton was the only person to email me back. Dayton lives in the Wine Country of Temecula, CA, but he wouldn't give me his business address. Said I needed to make an appointment to see what he has for sale. I didn't call him to buy anything, I just want to see what his work is like and to sit down and go over the cost to do that work.

. . . yes, sitting down would be a good idea when going over the costs. Actually sit down and then grab onto something and flex all your muscles and grit your teeth and then maybe wink at him to let him know your ready . . .

There is also GSM Vehicles/Colin Hyde. They do good work but are quite aways from you.

I bought mine and was in denial. " I am just goin to camp in it and not work on it"

Winick of course is a recognized master restorer. I think he even had a new design picked up by Airstream and put into production. I imagine his high skills are in high demand for high dollars...and well worth it!

I don't know if he's the new guy on the block or what but his name has only been mentioned twice before on the forums. And one of the times gives a rough location of his shop:

"there's a guy on the way from 79S to Tucalota Springs, sort of on the north side of the street that deals in trailers and aparently does restorations. Follow the road from the casino turnoff towards Tucalota Springs, and you can't miss it.
It is a little ways out of town, but might be worth investigating. Sorry I do not have a better address for you.
btw. We love camping at Tucalota Springs. A nice relaxing place close to wine country"

Steve, I believe that is Dayton Taylors place. I go to Tucalota Springs too, but come in from a different direction.

Chris, does this Colin Hyde have a web site. Where is he located. I don't mind traveling out of state for the right builder. Heck, I was going to use the Co-OP in Tampa, FL to do work on a GMC. The Co-OP does do some Airstreams, but I would like to find someone closer if I can.

MarkR, I have seen his web site, but I want to know what is work looks like in person. It does look like he does good work. If only he would return his telephone and email messages. I figured I could easily spend upwards of $50,000 on what I want done.

I believe that I saw Dayton Taylor's 1958 Airstream Traveler "The Martini Lounge" at a Tin Can Tourists Open House during a rally they had a few weeks ago at Vail Lake Resort just outside of Temecula. It was beautiful. There seemed to be a great deal of attention paid to the details. I just viewed it as part of the Open House but I think it was spectacular. Of course, as to be expected, I believe the price tag was fairly spectacular, too.

Bill, Thank you for the site. I might do just that and drop by and talk to Mike. I figure he is no more than 30 miles away from me. Beats having to drive to the East Coast.

I've seen the work Mike puts out and it's top-drawer. Uwe knows him as well and I'm sure would say the same.

. . . I bought my Tradewind from a guy in Wisconsin and HE even told me about C & G (2000 miles away) - couldn't say enough good about them. Having said that, to date I haven't had any experience with them (and have no clue where Bellflower is).

Yes. My maiden voyage to Pismo Beach reveled a leak when hooked up to city water and showering.

Notwithstanding, I am also getting a rear awning, rear fantastic fan, a Sealand china toilet and a LCD TV mounted on the wall...

Absolutely.
They are the guys that you want to see if a regular production/repair/rv shop simply won't do.
You will not see varnish runs, rough edges, poorly finished doors etc in their shop.
Unfortunately, those are common sights in most of the shops I have visited. Many of them listed in this thread.
Most shops do nice work. MEL does stuff that has me green with envy.....
