Question from new user

This site is new to me and I have no idea how it works or how it is to be used. I'm hoping it is a place were I can learn about upgrading my airstream. I have a 1989 excella, which I've owned for 10 years. Needless to say, it needs some work. The first thing I need to do is upgrade the upholstery. I know there is a place in KY that works on upgrading airstreams, but there is no way I'm driving to KY to have work done. We live in Northeast Ohio --- Cleveland is North, Akron is South and Youngstown is East. Any ideas as to were I might find someone to refurbish the couch and chair? Pat G

Welcome from the Florida Panhandle

Welcome to the Forums. We're glad to have you with us.

For upholstery work, I would just go to a local company that does that work. There's nothing really special about Airstream seat cushions.

First off...welcome to the forums! You will find lots of info here, I would start off with two things:

1) the "Search Function". Click on "Search" in the blue bar at the top and type in a keyword or two to find a specific topic.
2) the "Forums Tab". Click on "Forums" at the top of the page and look through the topical subjects and sub-categories.

As far as reupholstering your chair and sofa...driving to KY could be a lot worse, especially if you lived farther than the adjacent state!

If that's too far look in your yellow pages for an auto, RV or furniture upholstery shop locally. We found one a couple of miles from home...and they did a good job. We are now in the midst of our second restoration and I will be doing the upholstery myself as the cushions are much simpler than on the first.

Although, I have heard good things and seen the work of Fowler Interiors in KY and they do a great job! I believe another resource close to you may be P & S Trailers. They work with Fowler Interiors but may be able to recommend someone else close by or handle the job with Fowler for you.

Look locally and look around. When I had mine done the "Shops" wanted $1,200.00 plus material to do the sofa and dinette. I found an individual working in his home that did the job for $550.00 and that included the extra firm foam for the sofa.

The material was $36.00 per yard and most recommend you will need 15 yards.

I had all the upholstery redone by a local shop that does classic cars and boat interiors. They sent me to their wholesale fabric dealer to pick out what I wanted and then they handled the rest. They did a great job and it was the first trailer they had ever attempted. Look locally and check out some of their work before you commit. Often they have a photo album of their work for you to look through and some of their work-in-progress at the shop.

Just redid mine this last fall. Had a local shop do both couches and the dinette. Cost was around 2500.00 for the extra firm memory foam and the leather. Take a look at my pics and you can see what can be done. She was origionally the Wedgewood blue pattern.

Had to laugh when I read this. Cleveland to Lexington, KY is about a 5 hour drive. Trust me, your trailer is made to go at least that far.
