Private sale versus dealer purchase

We are 'this close' to buying an Airstream, our first ever travel trailer. The problem is, who services them when the nearest dealer is a couple of hundred miles away? Do they have to be serviced specifically at an Airstream dealership? If we buy privately rather than via the buyer, are we at a disadvantage for finding a good service department?

DH and are both VERY unhandy newbies. Whatever we get will require the help of a knowledgeable tech who can help us solve our problems and do the winterizing. How to find a service department near to where we live in Medford Oregon?

Seems to me most of what you would need done in any Airstream could be done by any good local RV technician if you are not near an Airstream dealer. Body work or getting to anything under the body work, like holding tanks, seems to be worth a special trip to the Airstream dealer.

In our Airstream, it looks like the appliances, and the plumbing, heating, AC and power equipment are all name brand from established RV suppliers, like would be found in many other trailer brands. The wiring, piping and electrical all looks hand built with standard fittings, as did all the the other trailer brands I looked at. So, all stuff a good RV tech could deal with.

Finding a good RV tech - now that is a whole other story .

Thanks, Wayward. We're going to find a good RV tech before we purchase and hopefully have a few leads. Can't wait until the deal is made and we're done shopping.
