Preparing for Deployment

Hi Everyone. The "Barge", a 27FB Twin Flying Cloud is on order and is expected to be delivered mid-March. We are finding the advice on Air Forums most helpful as we research and purchase all the things we'll need to travel for months at a time. We'll be towing it with the "Tug", which is 2024 7.3L (gas) F250. Looking forward to the new adventures! // Gary & Philly

Hi Gary & Philly! Welcome to the forum, and Airstream life. Congrats on your Flying Cloud, it's the perfect size. That F250 will work well. You will get your rig in time for spring camping.

I'm in Great Bridge. We are heading out this weekend, south to Jekyll Island. Watching the weather.

Bill - Great meeting you! We are in Great Bridge, too. As Philly and I have walked and wrote our bikes through the interconnected neighborhoods here, we’ve seen only one other airstream. Perhaps it’s yours.

We’d enjoy would enjoy meeting you. We’re off of Etheridge Manor Boulevard.

How Fun!
My advice is to start making camping reservations now, and keep good notes.
It's better to plan ahead, and then cancel if you need to.

When looking at public type camping places where you can choose your site, it helps to use google maps/google earth to look at things like views, where things like dumpsters, boat ramps and parking lots are located.

We also keep notes after camping different places on what site we had, what are other good sites to choose there, and what sites we would avoid. This makes it a lot faster to make subsequent reservations.

Bearstream01,
Thanks! We've been told that Airstreamers name their rigs. For a retired Navy guy and his Navy Veteran wife, Tug and Barge isn't all that creative.
No thanks necessary on the service. Best job ever!

Piggy Bank,
Thanks again for your response and recommendations. We've booked two military campgrounds in VA for the shakedown cruises, but do need to begin planning the longer adventures.

Taking notes of the places visited sounds like sage advice. After a while I expect they can begin to blend together and it becomes difficult to remember exactly which ones were the best for specific activities.

Thanks again!

Gary & Philly

Prowler aviator...many stories! Do a search on "Veterans Fall In" and you'll find a veteran thread that many have used to introduce their service.

Lots of military campsites are available to you...we've enjoyed the "fam camps" wherever we've traveled.

Also, consider joining ACI and a local club; the Tidewater chapter of ACI in Region 3 just met today for lunch at the Williamsburg Winery...about 30 people, was fun (Tidewater would be your local chapter). Our breakout rally is at the Rockahock campground in Lenexa up on the Chickahominy River, not far from you, April 4-6.
