Picked up our Flying Cloud this weekend!

My husband and I just took delivery on our FC 28RB twin this weekend and we are so excited! We placed the order back in late October and did our walk-through on Saturday, in the midst of a rare Southern California rain. We are total newbies, neither of us having towed anything before Saturday! Drove home, did a little bit of practicing in the local high school parking lot, then took her home and got her parked. Now we just need to find a few places for shake-down weekends, both with and without hookups, before our vagabond summer begins! (Suggestions welcome!)

Thank you to everyone who answered all my questions while we were looking to buy. We are excited to begin this new chapter in our lives and looking forward to becoming members of this community.

Congratulations! What a great looking rig! It sounds like you're off to a terrific start...I envy your weather as we're "winterized" right now in Virginia, anxiously awaiting spring. Enjoy it, stay close to the Forums...a great resource. Congratulations again.

Congratulations!
We spent a long weekend at Hurkey Creek Campground south of Idylwild in October. Quiet and lots of hiking trails. No hookups so we brought our generator. It's in the Riverside County Park System.
Riverside County also has a nice RV park with full hookups on the Colorado River. Mayflower Regional Park north of Blythe.
Joshua Tree National Park is on our list for late Spring.

Congratulations! Great idea practicing at the high school. My wife and I did that 30 years ago. We used the Drivers Ed cones left out to set up spots and backed in a bunch of times. Helped a lot at our first few camping spots. Enjoy!!!! Safe travels!

Join Harvest Host, and take some overnight trips within a day's drive of your home. Wineries, museums, breweries, golf courses. All should have spacious parking for you to practice pull through or backing up, and setup of the trailer. This will give you the confidence to make those multi-day journeys on your way to full-timing, and an opportunity to determine the things you need to pack or leave home. Congrats.

Go to a CAT scale with your normal traveling family members, fill your truck with fuel, weigh the truck without the trailer and then with the trailer. Weigh the truck and trailer both with and without your Weight Distribution Hitch setup. The scale has three sections. Truck front wheels (steer axles) on the first section, truck treat wheels (drive axles) on section two, and the trailer wheels on the third section. Several good videos on YouTube showing this process. This will give you a good idea of how much and where you will be able load additional items. Congratulations and welcome to the group.

Hello.
Your setup from a look at the picture looks perfect.
Rain is good. Check for puddles or dribbles.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions and encouragement. We weighed the truck at the CAT scales when we were shopping, so we are familiar with the procedure and will head there as soon as we have loaded the trailer with what we think are the necessities.

We are pretty much minimalists when it comes to travel. I have also looked into Harvest Host and it looks promising. We wanted to do a bit of full-hook up camping at first, just so we can make sure all systems are working as they should. We definitely ordered our FC with dry camping in mind: only one AC, propane stove (no microwave...I don't really use it at home either) and upgraded solar w/lithium batteries. The ability to dry camp was our big question with the GT after the 2021 changes. Lucky for us they changed many of the things we disliked about the FC prior to 2021. Just meant to be I guess!

Congratulations on getting your Flying Cloud! We picked up our FC 27FBT on December 19th and have been on the road with it ever since. It has performed flawlessly since day one. The quality of the build is what you would hope and expect from Airstream. I hope you enjoy yours as much as we have enjoyed ours!
