Party of 3 in a Tiny RV in DC
Hi everyone!
My partner and I just purchased a 2022 Bambi 16RB and are beyond excited to join the Airstream community! Our golden retriever seems to be excited as well and quickly decided the slider panel on the screen door is the perfect lookout spot.
By way of background, we are young(ish) professionals living in DC, but hoping to relocate sometime soon. We are originally from Kentucky and Ohio, but met here in the city. We are both avid backpackers/campers and skiers and thought an airstream might… streamline… our weekend adventures. We rented an RV last year for a long road trip to make sure this would work for us and were immediately hooked. We are especially excited for the possibility of winter use (but know we’ve got some work to do on that front) for ski activities. We are also looking for ways to facilitate remote working to facilitate extended road trips.
We opted for the Bambi 16RB as it seems the perfect size for us right now, with just a little room to grow as we try for kids. We figured the smaller the better as we learn the ropes and get comfortable on the road. We actually figured we would place an order and not get our trailer until next year, but incredibly enough, someone canceled their prior order right before we arrived at the deal. We expected to have several months to prepare so we are currently scrambling to get things (including our new truck for towing) ready.
Thank you in advance for all of the tips and advice. It was such a relief to stumble across the wealth of knowledge and community here!
Best,
rvindc
P.S. We are still looking for names for our Bambi! Feel free to send suggestions!

Welcome! And we need pics! Especially of a Golden. (We rescued a Golden, one rescue dog ago.)
If you have loved ONE Golden, you love them all... Their sunny nature wins hearts every time.

Welcome to the world of Airstreaming! Your 16 is well suited to go-anywhere camping, except for the small waste tank. If you get a blue tote, you need to figure out how to haul it, which might affect you choice of tow vehicle. Or you can stick with full hookup sites…
As for the name, I favored RolyPoly (that’s a cellar bug or woodlouse, for those not from the Midwest) but the wife overruled me . Our 23’ FC is “Little Cloud”.

If you are into using small bug names as GetawA-S suggests, a reference to a "Lepisma saccharina" which most folks call a "Silverfish" might be in order.
Have you ever seen a "silver leaf beetle?" They are named "Calligrapha philadelphia" and are quite a match for your Bambi.

Congrats on your new Bambi!
Yes, winter camping can be done in an Airstream, search the forums for tips. You've got a few things going for you that make it more manageable: a short trip (vs. staying in it all winter) and you say you're young(ish) and so presumably not as bothered by the cold. (Tip: cover the bare aluminum walls surrounding the bed with a blanket or fashion a padded cover you can velcro or snap in place, you'll know why if you contact the walls at night)
It beats a tent, for sure.
So, being from the Bluegrass and Buckeye states, hmmm, "BuckeyBlue" perhaps? or maybe just "BB" being it's so small and shinny.

If you're into small freshwater jellyfish, go with a derivation of the Craspedacusta or Limnocnida genera
Plenty of good information and user experience with single axle, smaller airstreams. FWIW, when searching for information here, I prefer to "show posts" versus "show threads".
If you're on FB, there are dedicated small AS groups too. We've had our 19' for 3 summers now, but find ourselves reading/learning/experiencing more than contributing to the forum.
An easy/up canopy or gazebo with mats extend the living space.
Enjoy your new setup !

"Money Pit" is always an appropriate name for any RV or boat.
