outdoor shower permitted at resorts?

Hi all,

I've owned my '65 Caravel for a few years and love it but the person who originally renovated it did not put in a shower and I hate the location of the toilet. I don't want to spend thousands on redoing the whole bathroom right now...so here's my question:

Are outdoor showers permitted at most high end RV resorts or will I be in trouble for using it? I thought this might be a smart solution for the short term.

OUtdoor showers are great for the beach to get rid of sand on your feet and salt water off your body before entering the Airstream. They are great for washing the dog. They work well when cooking outdoors to grab some water or washing off utensils.

They do NOT go well at established RV parks or campgrounds. Most “high end” RV parks have showers and bathrooms for campers to use anyway.

Most high end RV resorts won't even let you in with a 1965 trailer without a bathroom.

I actually do have a bathroom and my '65 is all new and modern inside. I just don't have a shower. I was recently at a very high end resort that was more than happy to have me due to how shiny and updated my rig is but due to Covid, they suddenly and without warning shut down the showers....that's the only reason I was asking.

But it is a Screenroom.... er AWNING with no-see-um screens...

Of course your outdoor shower is on the road side, and you may have no or short awnings on that side. But where is your kitchen faucet?

Could you modify a small screen room to be more private... or put curtains around part of your porch awning, and put a very small kiddie pool inside as a shower/tub/gray water catchment reservoir?

I have an Eddie Bauer and have sometimes fantasized about taking down the table and setting up a soaking tub in the hatch area. Siphoning the water into the drain wouldn't be hard.

As long as you don't dump gray on the ground or run around nude, the campground may be reasonable. Ask "for a friend". who'd like to visit.

I would say unequivocally “no” to using an outdoor shower in a private campground of any kind.

I believe you would incur the wrath of the owners as well as fellow campers.

In a federal campground without bathhouse facilities, on the beach, etc., these would not be a problem and in fact are commonplace.

I understand your frustration.

In the US Army my helmet was my wash basin. Less than two canteens of water for a wash and rinse. I do not advise this option. Kept the helmet. If it is windy, I would get goose bumps. After using the water, I could also wash a pair of socks and maybe my underwear. Ahhhhh, I say.

High End RV Parks are out of my preferred places to visit. A cavern would fit my style, but jumping into a clear running creek or small river out West will get your heart pumping.... Refreshing, as well. You will know you are still alive and everything shrinks. I had short hair afterwards.

I used a Shower Tent with the shower system extended into the tent from the Airstream. The tent was available at WalMart.

Although the 23 foot Safari did have a shower inside... why have to wipe it down and clean up when the outside tent shower was just perfect. Had a three foot square heavy rubber work mat underneath so the water drained.

Nancy tried NOT using the exterior shower at a remote location in Utah, after digging trilobites, without the tent and attracted the attention of an ATVer traveling through the canyon. Neither party seemed distracted. No accident was reported by the ATV driver.

A wash basin for interior use is great. Wash your hair, if you have any, outside. A wash towel works fine inside. This is 100% acceptable at all of Wyoming, Nevada, Montana and Utah Forest Service locations.

Soap is optional if you do not have rinse water.

Some Airstream owners are a bit bashful. A full fledge shower when Boondocking is good for about two hours and I am back where I started once hiking.

Shower on the way out is our plan. I like to look sharp when pumping Diesel.

I include a photo of the 23 foot with Tent Shower. Still have it. Kept the shower tent. Sold the trailer. You will figure it all out soon. Just do not ask about your Black Water and Toilet. That is my favorite subject on this Forum. Just telling you now....

Many years ago, I made a shower to use inside our VW camper. No space to make it permanent, so it was a fabric shower curtain around a wire loop hanging horizontally from the ceiling. The shower pan was a large Rubbermaid Action Packer and water was from one of those "sun" shower bags. We never got back to the camper before the sun heated water was again cold, but water heated in a tea kettle warmed it back up. After emptying the collected water in it, the Action Packer was also the storage box for the contraption,
