Hello All!


My wife and I have been full timing for a bit over 2 years. We both work from home and likely will for the next 9 years. We currently have a 45' 2008 Newmar Mountain Aire that is in great condition and we really love it. I have a Hydra Lift Motorcycle Carrier on the back of the motorhome that I use to carry a Harley Davidson Road Glide Ultra. We flat tow a Jeep Wrangler Limited Rubicon.



We purchased a lot in a RV Resort in Fort Myers FL and that is where we live for 9 months a year. When we travel, we generally go to one location and stay there for 3 months and then go back to Florida. This year we are near Asheville, NC.


Lately, I have been thinking that I would like to get a big 5th wheel for the lot in Florida and purchase an Airstream Classic 33FB to travel in. I would pull the TT with a F250 Diesel and put the motorcycle in the back of it.

Might consider opting for the F350 since could blow out payload capacity of F250 with a heavy Hog in the back and dragging a Classic. But boy that does sound like a fun plan.

I would suggest that you find a good dealer (hint: there's a good one not that far east of Ashville) and really dig into various models and floor plans. You may still wind up with a 33' Classic. You also might find that you are happy in something shorter. Spend a couple hours in each one and see how it works for you. You already have the "big" side of things covered . I'd certainly look at the 30' Classic and some of the others in the 27 to 30' range.

Last January we went to the Tampa RV Show and I have a dealer 3 miles from my place in FL (North Trails RV). I am a pretty big guy (fat guy) and the problem that I have with the "smaller" models is the shower. With the exception of the 33, they all felt so small. But then again, how much time do you spend in the shower.

Another thing that is a bit of a worry is the queen sized bed. We have had a king bed for over 25 years. I am not too sure we can go back. My wife would like to have the twin bed version.... me... not so much.

Welcome. Haha. Fat guy and Airstream can be tight. 33 would be a great choice. Stepping out of a Newmar class a to anything else might be a stock to your system as far as size is concerned. Airstream’s are great units. Hope it all works out for you.

Welcome from Colorado: You are discovering that Airstreams are small, although well built. There are also good sized "full time living" fifth wheels out there. They may not be up to the Newmar class although.

Why not keep the Newmar in Florida and buy the Airstream for the travel season? Best of both worlds in my view.

Thanks David,
Mainly because of the age and upkeep needed for the Newmar (or any class A). If we are going to move it once in awhile, we need to make sure that tires, batteries (all 10), engine maintenance, etc are kept up. Most importantly, the DW likes the way 5th wheels are laid out and NEW is her favorite word.

Well, if you are both "full sized" and tall .... there really isn't a solution to the shower issue. Same issue with the beds. The twins are just a bit longer, but not quite enough longer for 6'4". One advantage of the twin layout - you get more usable outside storage.

Both full sized, yes. If we were taller (I'm 5'11), we would not look so full sized.

For what it's worth (not much) I'm about 6'3" and 265 pounds and fit fine in our twin beds. I also fit in the shower just fine.
