Newbie's lake Asbery, Fl. 1960 Ambassador

Me and my wife just bought our first Airstream (1960 Ambassador). It needs alot of work And we are up for the challenge. We are very glad during our camping trip with our pop-up, that we met a member of this web site who had an Airstream camping in the same place. We asked him if we could look inside and decided that we wanted one. during that weekend we went on Craiglist and found one and bought it that same week. Now we are in the process of gutting it. Thank God for this site. There are alot of helpful threads.

Good luck with Ruby. We bought a 1956 airstream in need of lots of work 2 years ago.
Still working on it but in the home stretch now. Definitely worth the effort. Good luck.

Just curious where you found it in FL? I came down a few years ago and looked at a 1960 Ambassador, that was far off the beaten path, and it too needed a lot of work. It was below Tampa.

Ryocomjr. I'm not sure how much help I could be, we just moved into this area 5 months ago. We were living in Zephryhills. But as far as Ruby is concern she needs to be gutted to the frame. We just started to take the inside panels off and found out that there are leaks, and we also found old rats nest thorough the insulation. we are taking our time with her. I am looking for some place that sells the aluminum sheets 4 x 10' or longer cheep. I will let you know what we come up with. But definitely keep in touch. I will try to help as much as I can. The wife calls me the Jack of all trades, the master of none! LOL

Im not sure if im going to have to do all of that. We are just getting started with ours too. I think im about the same way Jack of all trades master of none.... Im a i think i can do it if i just put my mind to it kind of guy. Just hope that this "project" turns out the way we want it to. As far as camper parts there used to be a place i think at the corner of College dr and Jefferson that sold parts but not sure if they are still there or not. ill try and go by there tomorrowand see. I spoke with a guy at home depot yesterday about the Pex piping and seems thats the best way to go, inexspensive and easy to use. Let me know if there is anything i can help with. Again im in there area and more than willing to help if needed.

It really depends on how much work your planning to do? But as fare a aluminum is concern Berman Brothers sold it to us at $52 for a 4x8 sheet. They are out of Jacksonville. We live in Asbury Downs. We just removed the frame off the shell. We are taking it to get welded, sandblasted and paint at a place on Knight Box. We plan to do the rest of the work our selves.
