Newbie in Oklahoma

Hi! Longtime lurker here, finally decided to join the party.

My name is Sarah and I live in Stillwater, Oklahoma. I'm not a native Okie though, as I was born and raised in Ohio. My brother and I used to count 'silver twinkies' on our family vacations in the Buckeye state, so Airstreams have been catching my eye since childhood.

I purchased my first AS in November, and just towed it home to Oklahoma last week. She's a 1964 Airstream Trade Wind Twin, whom I've affectionately named Miranda. She needs some work, but for the most part I think I landed myself a heck of a deal, and I am extremely excited about this project. Miranda was obviously very well cared for up until approx 2007 when she was sold as part of an estate auction. I have a public album on Facebook is anyone is interested in a complete set of photos of Miranda before restoration.

THANK YOU to everyone who posts here, I have already learned SO MUCH and have found very useful information on this website, especially when I was shopping for an AS of my own. I look forward to making some friends here!

Cheers!

First of all, welcome to the forums. Second, I love the name. We have a hot sauce (bar) and collection going here that we hope to implement into the trailer someday.

Hey thats not far at all. I'm an OSU alum myself. (Ohio State & Oklahoma State). I don't even have kids, let alone grandkids so I'll keep the class year to myself.... The lady from WBCCI here in OK laughed when I told her old I was.

You have any experience with the AS dealer in OKC? I haven't even been there yet.

A co-worker suggested Allied Foam in OKC for new bunks and couch cushions for me, have you heard of them?

There's no A/S dealer in OK -- only a service center which is Griffin RV. We take ours over to Tom when things are just out of my capabilities -- the funny thing is that we bought our '71 off craigslist from a place up in Enid, and it was originally purchased from a place called Brassfields RV off Route 66 here in OKC. Long story short, that dealership was owned by Tom's father and Tom used to work there growing up and serviced our A/S when it was brand new. The guy is totally awesome...but it does come at a price.

We bought the foam at Joann's. It was on sale and used a holiday coupon. I used the original covers for a template for the gaucho covers.

Ah, I see. So If I need something from Griffins, ask got Tom. Gotcha.

Miranda spent her whole life in Ohio, and then just across the border in PA. I found her on Ebay. The guy lived about 3 hrs from my hometown in OH, so I sent my Dad the $ and he went to pick her up. She stayed at his house till i was home for Christmas and could tow her home. He also said he had to make sure she was 'road worthy' before he turned his daughter loose on a 1000 mile journey.
