Newbie From Texas

Hello All,

Joe here. Very excited to be a new owner of a 2018 AS 16RB Sport. We picked it up a week ago. The tow vehicle is a 2011 Chevy Silverado 4X4. Our previous trailer was a 2015 T@B Outback, so the 16 Sport feels huge in comparison.

I retire in May from teaching computer science at a small private university here in Austin, Texas. We hope to participate in volunteering in Habitat home builds around the country. We tried that out last summer in Durango and it was a great experience.

Regarding the trailer, we love it so far. I was disappointed the Sport doesn't come with the stainless steel rock protectors on the front, so I have ordered those. Wow, they are expensive. They are on back-order and will be here in six weeks. Also thinking about the screen door guards and upgrading the battery to a 100 AH AGM deep cycle battery for boondocking. I already have a portable 100 watt Renogy solar panel, and may add another.

welcome

Hi there and welcome to a fellow Texan - we were just camping down your way in Seguin - all last week - had a wonderful site about 30' from the Guadalupe River and a very nice week of fishing and exploring and just resting by the river - you will have a lot of fun and meet great people along the way. Everything won't be perfect all the time - trust me - we have already been back to the dealer 3x with a brand new 2018 FC - but - once the little rattles and creaks work out, you are good to go. Might I suggest that your first couple of trips be somewhere near home/dealer - not more than a couple hours away - just for this reason. Of course we all had to laugh - we took "Rosie"" back for another check up yesterday - the 2nd a/c was rattling - and the tech climbed up there and unhooked the cover and...............it was the rattling sound a dead June bug makes when being bounced around on the top. LOL Just enjoy your new AS and have fun!!

Welcome!
Check out the Hill Country Rally in Johnson City the weekend of April 6,7,& 8. Lots of Airstream people will be there. The rally format is unstructured, so it's easy to have time to visit with other Airstreamers or check out the attractions in the local area. The food is great! bwoodtx and his wife are host and hostess.

Hello from Colorado: Welcome to Air Forums and the Airstream owner's community. I've often thought about Habitat as a retirement activity. I just haven't pulled the trigger yet. I enjoy working with my hands and building things.

Your new Airstream will make the upcoming retirement very enjoyable indeed. Best wishes.

David

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome.

Regarding Habitat -- They have a program called Caravaners, where folks with RVs can sign-up for a two week gig helping to build a home. They have Caravaner builds scheduled all over the US. Last summer we worked on a two week build in Durango CO and this July we have another build scheduled for Pagosa Springs CO. If you're interested you can Google 'Habitat Caravaners'.
