Newbie 10-2007... bugging out.

Hey gang...

I am a mid fifties guy here taking care of my 86 yr old Mother. Hospice is involved but shes actually doing pretty well.
Time is short though and I am planning to dump this huge house, pick up a As/Avion/Argosy and go full time out into the world looking for a new area!

I'm in NW Florida, Panama City area, (well inland from town), and would be interested in any advice.

Thanks,

Lou.

Welcome and sorry you have gotten into this in the manner you have. Life is very short and should be enjoyed to the fullest. I think you are on the right track. My grandfather had a life long dream of seeing the country upon retirement. He was planning to buy a MOHO and go everywhere. Unfortunately he got cancer and never saw retirement. He is one of the main reason we are trying to see the country now. I wish you nothing but luck. If you come to Baltimore feel free to drop by.

Hey Lou,
Welcome aboard. We winter in Punta Gorda, Fl in Paradise Park. Used to be Airstreams only. My point you ask? I knew you would. There are a lot of Airstreamss there in all price ranges and conditions. Maybe a good place to look. We're leaving the mountrains on NC in two weeks heading down that way with several golf outings along the way. It's getting cold up here. If you'd like, you could pm me in three weeks and I'll let you know what's posted on the board down there. Let me know $$$and size. We've been full timming for nine years and love it. 92 34' Good luck with your Mom. I did the same thing with mine who passed away at 92.

both of my parents were on hospice and it was the best an experience like that can be. people who work in hospice are godsends, and i thought that before i met my wife (who used to work in hospice).

there's a lot of wonderful people here on the forums, lots of great info, and ask lots of questions. the more specific your questions, the better answers you'll get.

good luck and welcome aboard!

newbie, getting on the road.

Mom passed on early this month. I'm starting to actively look for a silver bullet.

Lou, I'm sorry to hear about your mom. I hope you were able to enjoy the last couple of months with her. Now as you're getting ready for the next phase of your life, good luck with the search for the perfect Airstream!

Bookman,

Same happened with my MIL, three years ago. Glad we had her at home for the last few months, hospitals aren't a good place.

Getting an Airstream and getting out of Florida sounds like a great plan. Have you ever lived in the Rockies?

I found my '69 Safari here:

http://www.airstream.net/classifieds...ist&clearoff=1

also, try "crazedlist.org" you'll have to use the Firefox browser and change one parameter (very easy) within firefox but it enables you to search all the craigslists in the world quickly. beware of scammers, there, though!

I envy you man, I never had a mom (not after birth anyway, took off and left me, my brothers and my Dad) and you had one for 86 years, that's awesome. Treasure the memories and good luck making some more out on the road of life.
