Welcome from Colorado: I helped my friend renovate his 76
Sovereign a few years ago. It is a very nice Airstream and they use it quite a bit. The 70s Airstreams were designed and built to fit the market conditions, what with inflation, fuel shortages, emission controls and the like. They were built to be light weight and lower cost. So we have rusty frames, 1/2" plywood subfloors, plastic cabinets, and the like. But the trailers can be renovated into very nice travel trailers.
Maybe you have found the Knowledge Base and Airstream Trailer Forums at the bottom of the forums page. Then click on
Sovereign and your year range. You can learn all about your trailer and how people have renovated them. You might want to start a "project thread" in this section where you describe all your activities on your trailer and others will likely follow along with you.
Here are a couple few photos of my friends Sovereign when he finished it. Maybe you can post a couple of "as found" photos also.
