New to the Group!
Hello all! My wife and I have recently purchased a 1974 Sovereign! We have been considering for a couple years what we wanted to live in that was mobile. We set our sites on an Airstream after researching all possible avenues! It is extremely difficult to find a vintage airstream in BC Canada that is not already renovated, or gutted for that matter. Our manifesting skills paid off and we found one in Summerland, BC. We are living near the Rocky mountains in the Kootenays and will be full timing out here. Summer's in West Kootenays and Winter's in East, it is much dryer in the East Kootenays. Will be living in it with 2 bigger dogs and our little man! When I picked it up it was pretty much gutted. I have spent the last month taking almost everything out it needs a full redo. Frame is in pretty decent shape, will be re-enforcing. I have my architectural sheet metal ticket so the metal work is right up my ally (one reason I was not concerned or overwhelmed by this project). I also have been building homes, barns, sheds you name it for a few years, and 10 years under my belt as a roofing master. The only thing I am getting done by someone else is the electrical. We are going for a full off grid rebuild, full solar system (most sunlight in canada where we live average a year), water purification system, tankless water heater, reflectix on outer skin, 2 inch roxul inside that on walls, 6 inch on bottom. Wood stove as wood is plentiful out here and with the dryer climate, not worried about humidity. Has some dents I have removed already. Will need some underbelly patches. All near exterior lights, new fans going in, near seals on all windows that open, like 9, new seals on upper windows. Took out wing windows, near seals. Re caulking all of it pretty much. Adding a skylight. New compartment seals and door seals. New fridge going in, stove top propane, no stove. Only 2 sinks and shower, shower/bath I will be using galvalume metal completely with a bamboo wood slat floor for drainage. Composting toilet. Took out black water tank, may put small storage compartment there and insulate the rest. Re plumbing all of it, all new gas lines, new tanks. Using 1/4 inch t and g for interior walls, with bands of copper penny painted steel riveted through to ribs for massive strength. Copper penny panels continuous on upper roof panel. Led lights throughout, great for solar, run on 0.06 amps. Will have hook ups if at a park or friends place for water and power. New tires on it already before we hauled it home. Axles look good for now, brakes work!!! Building new wheel wells, may spray with truck liner for added protection. Will be fully customized, 5 year home at least while our little guy grows up! Will be looking for ideas on all the forums, pictures soon! Check out Gypsy Wanderers on youtube for videos as we go along.
