New to the forum. Saying Hello.
I'm going to purchase a 72 Overlander Tomorrow. Excited to start living the dream and to see what fun an Airstream will be for us.
I still need a vehicle to haul it with and I believe I need at least a 1/2 ton vehicle. Is this true?
Ever dealt with lost title before? Is this impossible?

Welcome to the Forums. We're glad to have you with us.
You should be OK with a full size half ton of, if you would prefer, a Tahoe/Yukon or Expedition. A lost title situation can be worked out. It may cost you a few bucks, though.
Best of lick with your new baby.

Hey Sparkling 77,
Welcome. You have found the best Vintage Airstream site on the internet.
My wife and I are new to camping, too. We purchased our first trailer, our "new" 1968 Tradewind this spring and have been having a great time camping since.
Every problem we worried about or encountered with our Vintage Airstream Trailer ownership had already been addressed and answered in the archives.
Just do a little research in the archives and a whole host of ownership questions are answered and available to you immediately on-line.
If you run into a unique problem, there is no better place than here to post your inquirey.
The folks here are the greatest, most friendly, knowledgeable source of information available.
You are now part of a larger family, with several thousand cousins.
Again, welcome.

I'ts a project and we are estimating our first road trip (other than towing her home) will be the end of this summer.
We'd love to hear your comments so please check it out. We'll be keeping you posted on our progress and probably asking a million questions along the way.

Hello and welcome. A 1/2 ton truck will be plenty for pulling your 27 footer. In my opinion, more important than the payload rating of the tow vehicle 1/2 ton vs 3/4, ... is the actuall towing capicity of the vehicle. Pulling a trailer is going to put more strain on the transmission, therefore, I think having the vehicle equiped with a towing package is important, more than just having a frame hitch. The vehicle should be equiped with a transmission cooler and the rear differential may be geared lower, it hurts gas mileage but pulls better. Having the brakes functional on the trailer is a huge help when it comes to breaking, it will help save your rotars.
I used to pull with a Ford F150 which had a 4.9 L straight 6 and heavy duty 11 inch clutch and aprox 3.5 to 1 rear end gear ratio. It pulled very well. Now I pull with a Dodge Ram 1500 with a 4.7 V-8 that has tow package. I myself won't worry about getting a 3/4 or 1 ton truck until I buy at least a 31 footer or larger.

I'm not one to always tout the bigger is better mantra when talking about trucks and towing. OTOH, one thing that you need to consider is how much your trailer weighs in it's current configuration. That interior wood is beautiful, but it does weigh a lot more than what was original. I'm not saying a 1/2 ton won't do it - but you need to go into this with your eyes open.
Congrats on the new trailer, it's beautiful!
And welcome to the forums.

Congratulation. The trailer looks beautiful. Check with your DMV about how to handle the lost title situation. It seems all states are different. I had very little trouble getting an Oklahoma title with just a Bill Of Sale on an older Airstream. Some here on the Forum have had a harder time. There was a good discussion about this very subject not very long ago. Someone here will probably be able to give you the name of that thread.

Congrats on your '72 Overlander. That's what we had when I was a kid. Very nice! I also think you'll be fine with a 1/2 ton.

Happy Campers
Thanks to all for your kudos and advice!
I found my trailer on craigslist in Washington. It was posted just an hour earlier and my partner looked at it the next day. Purchased for $2,500! No title - we heard it was found on a relatives property years ago. And they didn't know who had it prior. The vin# is also torn and is unreadable.
