Talking New to the Family!

Hi all!

This past December we made the plunge into the Airstream world, and couldn't be more thrilled! Our big purchase was met with a range of reactions from friends, family and co-workers: the excited, the awestruck, the bemused and the doubtful.

You see, not only are we new to the Airstream world, but we are also first-timers when it comes to travel trailers altogether. "Go big, or go home", right? We have a teenager graduating high school in the next three years, and empty-nester fears have already started to kick in. While our family has been fortunate enough to visit places like Turks & Caicos, Puerto Rico, St. Marten, and other beautiful Caribbean destinations, unfortunately, our travels around the big beautiful US has been limited... and we're trying to change that!

We took our Airstream, "Alice", on her maiden voyage two weekends ago and had a total blast! We only traveled 45 minutes up the road to Williamsburg, VA, but it was a great test drive to work out all of the kinks. Everything worked beautifully, except for the standard mattress - we "bottomed out" on the platform sometime during the night. I'll have to find a thread on improving mattresses ASAP.

I have started a small blog on our travels for our family and friends (and anyone else interested in reading it). It's slow going since we're just part-timers right now, but we have set up more Airstream trips. The next scheduled adventure will be in April near Luray, VA.

For now, I'll be taking some time to read through the forums, and hopefully learning a few new tricks... like dewinterizing the Alice on our own.

Happy wandering!

Welcome to a wonderful way to travel. You have so much to learn being total newbies. But, first, read your manuals and keep them handy. Learning where and what things are, focusing on your various systems, where and for what, your fuses are located.

Mattresses are a problem. There are various postings on them here in the forums. I suggest that you google for RV mattresses in your area. There are some that may specialize making one for your size needs as well as quality needs. Some have bought regular size deep memory foam mattress, and cut them to fit your own bed. A comfortable sleep and sitting area are most important to enable you to enjoy the trip, especially long ones.

I started my RV JOURNEY in 2013, with a T@B, then, a 16' airstream Bambi, then, last year, an airstream interstate, 2016, MOTORHOME....which I absolutely love.

Learn all you can, have available, phone #'s for your dealership maintenance manager, and call for help if needed to talk you thru problems. Be sure to learn early on, the limits of your batteries and to use judiciously, your electrical needs.

Most important....relax, and enjoy the journey as well as the destination! Evelyn.

Welcome! You won't regret the journey. How did you arrive at the name "Alice" for your coach? Bill

Thank you so much! We thought the adventure seemed similar to those adventures Alice experienced in Wonderland. Technically, we registered her as "The Mad Hatters Tea Party", but call her Alice for short.

Here are a couple pictures from the inside...
