New to the Community and Airstream

Howdy All,

Just bought my first Airstream; a 1972 31 sovereign.

Very excited to start working on it over the winter.

all major components were updated by previous owner, however it needs a deep deep cleaning.

Any advice on how to get the acvordian style doors back on track...i can`t seem to get them to cooperate.

I meant to be more specific.

The sliding doors under the kitchen sink and to access the heater beside the door.

They are a wood grain but appear to be made of a compressed cardboard type material.

Any thoughts?

Hi Ted welcome to the forums were glad to have fellow canucks on board. The doors you are refering to are called tambour doors after the "compressed cardboard type material" is Tambour. Do these doors stick or are they right out of the track?

Ah, OK. Well, have a look at this thread. There are lots more, but this one gives the basics.

If in general, your trailer is really dirty, this could be part of the problem, too. There are a couple of people in that thread that talk about how they removed the doors to work on them, but failing that, maybe just getting a box of Q-tips and a pan of warm water to clean out the bottom track could be a good start.

Then when it's all dried out, give that bottom track a healthy shot with a can of silicon lubricant.
