New to the airstream community!!

Hey, Eddy and I were just gifted to a vintage airstream! We are very excited to being our restoration. The outside of the unit is in fair condition, but we are not even sure of the year model as to date. It has a 5 panel, and has gas and battery outlets. We have gutted it out and or being to replace the floor. We have saved all the parts, lights and missacellances.

Congratulations on the coach and welcome to the forums! If you post the vin# someone here will be able to tell you the model, year, and most likely where it was made. In some cases they will be able to tell you which number in the serries for the year it was. Post lots of pics, we love em! and it takes alot of ambigiuity out of questions when you ask them. I am sure you will have endless hours of enjoyment both with your airstream, and if you are like most of us here, just luking on the forum.

Welcome to our community! Sounds like a great project. We would love to see photos along the way. You can create photo albums in our photo gallery section and organize photos in a before, during and after section. Or if you really want to help others out, you can make even more photo albums like floor replacement, plumbing, furniture, etc.

Then if you ever decide to sell your new-to-you Airstream you can point potential buyers to your restoration photos and that is sure to show the value you have created during your restoration!

Once again, welcome to the best Airstream community on the net, we are excited to have you as one of our members!!!

Help!!

Thanks everyone for the wonderful welcomes!! Eddy and I are working hard tearing this airstream apart. It has been slow going the last week, we have the new floor installed. Doing the windows and screens now. Eddy has decided that our Silver Palace is older then we thought. Have the VIN#, how do we find out? Have been taking alot of "before photos" will get them downloaded in a day or so. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Love this site, thanks so much!!

Charlotte/Eddy,

Just post the serial number and we will figure it out or look at vintageairstream.com website in the picture gallery.

Charlotte,

That doesn't make much sense to me. You might try the Airstream Corporate site at: http://www.airstream.com/airstream/p...pre1980vin.pdf

This is a description of pre 1980 VINs.

Exclamation It's a 64!!

We finally know the year model for our airstream!! It is a California made 1964 Overlander 26' with double bed layout! It is in really good shape to have been parked for so long. There are a few dents and a lot of minor scraps on the skin, I have being looking at a lot of great airstreams on vintageairstream.com. It was a big help in our ID of our airstream. Just thought I would give everyone an update.

Thanks, we hope to get ours looking as great as your photos!! We are using a lot of eolbow grease at present, but have big dreams! Keep in touch, I am taking a lot of B-4 photos. Can't wait untill the after shots are ready. We are so excited with this project!! The skylight will have to be replaced, but have so much to do with everything else at present.
Later,
Charlotte

Skylight

Charlotte/Eddy, Get the skylight from VintageTrailerSupply. I have heard it is better quality than anywhere else from some others who have bought from several dealers. The material used for some of them is thin plastic vs. fiberglass in the ones offered by VTS. Just a thought for you... Ed

Thumbs up Hello Robin,

Thanks for the reply, I don't know how much help will will be. We need all the help we can get and then some!! Had 2 great days to work here in GA, and got a lot done. This airstream is very additive, the more I do the more I fine to do and want to get done!!
Have prep for some finish work (interior)tomorrow, have been cleaning, cleaning the exterior, need to get the clear coat off. Out lady was very negected for at least 10 years(That I know about), I had been trying to buy her for that long.
The older couple who own her just didn't want to let her go! The wife passed last summer, and her spouse decided do let us have her as a gift. We are trying to come up with a suitable named for our silver palace, and wish to honor this wonderrful couple. Their names Ellena and LLoyd, any suggestions?
Later,
Charlotte
