New to forum

I'm posting on behalf of my mother who has an '86 345 that my dad purchased new. Our home is in central Calif and I'm seeking some advice about some very expensive repairs that were done. I'd like to hear from anyone who has gone in to have a job done and wound up with a multi-thousand dollar repair bill without an estimate being given. Any help as to recourse and/or resources would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,
Robert

Hi Robert,

I recommend you contact your state attourney general. Many states have rules about estimates, repairs, and exceeding estimates. Filing a complaint with the BBB can also help get some action from the business in question, because they will have to respond in order to get it off their record with the BBB. I have found the AG to be most helpful, and businesses are quick to respond when they get a call from the AGs office. If they have violated any state laws, they could be in serious trouble.

I certainly hope our members can give you some ideas of how to resolve your complaint. Feel free to discuss your situation, but please do not name the vendor publicly. That would violate our Community Policies.

Thank you Stephanie - I appreciate the info. I'll give that a try and see where it goes.

Welcome to the forum Robert. I am sad to hear of your problem with the repair bill. I sympathize with you since I have been in the same situation. Too bad your dad did not get an estimate first. Stephanie gave you some good advice and something to follow up on.
You have piqued my interest in saying your dad bought the 86, 345 new. I would like to hear more about that. How have you used it? Where have you travelled? What changes if any has he made? Obviously it has been good to him since he kept it all these years. He could well be the longest existing owner of a 345.
