Hello and welcome to these Airstream Forums and the vintage Airstream hobby. A 66 Ambassador 28' is a nice find and well worth the effort to renovate the thing. Some say the late sixties vintage Airstreams are the best, and I am one of those. They were well built, had nice cabinetry, especially the International trim level, and are lighter weight. They had unique Corning glass frameless windows which are sharp looking, but can be rather leaky.
I renovated a 66 Trade Wind 24' some years ago. I really enjoy the project, learning all about the trailer and making it "like new" again. One significant problem with this vintage of Airstream is a woefully inadequate waste water holding tank, or tanks; for black and gray water. Back then, folks let "wash water" run on the ground and dug a "gopher hole" to bury the solid wastes. We don't do that anymore. So I had quite a project installing new black and gray water holding tanks.
Here are some photos of my 66 Trade Wind. I thought you might be interested. It is two model sizes smaller than your 66 Ambassador, but there are plenty of similarities. Post some photos of yours if you like.
David
