New to Airstreams

Hello everyone, I recently became the owner of a 1980 Excella, partially gutted, and have most of the original interior items to include the blender. I intend on completing a full restomod and will not re-use any of the original items. I look forward to networking with y'all in order to not only gain knowledge during this process, but to find anyone in need of original parts for early '80's Airstreams. I intend on using my Airstream for recreational travel, as well as possibly short term living if the military decides I retired too soon! Either way, I look forward to the journey ahead, and the lifestyle Airstreams embody.

RE: New to Airstreams

Greetings ABT! Welcome to the Forums and the world of Vintage Airstreams.

There are many here with rigs similar to yours, and information is freely shared. You may wish to consider joining Wally Byam Caravan Club International (WBCCI)/Airstream Club International (ACI) -- this organization has local units throughout the US and Canada as well as in many other countries. You can become a member at large -- or join a nearby unit -- or any unit of your choosing. Quite often, you will find a unit member with firsthand experience with a unit similar to yours. As a member of WBCCI/ACI, you may also join special interest sub-units (Intra-Clubs) such as the Vintage Airstream Club that is open to members who own or are interested in Airstream produced RV products over 25 years of age.

Good luck with your Excella!

Welcome aboard ABT! We are here to help in any way we can. And I agree with the recommendation to join the Airstream Club. You will find lots of local people who may be willing to help with your project.

Which branch of the military are you in? Just curious.

Best regards!

Welcome aboard, ABT. I have a 1982 Excella 27'. I've been mostly keeping my trailer original, except where newer parts would make it better without looking out of place for the early Eighties.

Post pictures, and maybe even start a restoration thread to show your progress. (Of course, I haven't done that myself, since I'm a little too tactical and post a new thread for each problem I come across.)

There's a lot of really good info here. Have fun resto-modding and researching. I can hardly wait to see what you create.

Welcome to the vintage Airstream hobby from Colorado: I'm an old geezer who enjoys these vintage Airstreams. I have renovated 4 of them and really enjoy the projects. I like making them into comfortable and reliable travel trailers. Here is a photo of my 75 Overlander 27'. My project threads are in the knowledge base, Airstream trailers found toward the bottom of the Forums page. Keeping a "blog" of your project is fun and many people jump in and help with questions as they come up.

Welcome! Couldn't ask for a better forum to get assistance, advice, and ideas for inspiration. Been on the forum more than one year and have utilized it for so much. Have fun!
