Arrow New Owners '56 Caravanner in Florida

Hello from Sarasota FL -
We just got our first airstream...a 1956 Caravanner. We are very
excited...but it is going to be A LOT of work (and fun too.)
We have already gotten tons of information from this site and I
think we will be using it daily.
We bought the Caravanner in Atlanta. I think there was a post a
few weeks ago from a couple of people who had seen it. They said
it would be a big job and it will be....basically starting from the floor
up. We will post pictures along the way.
Can't wait to finish and go to a rally - but it will probably take a
year to complete this project.
Wish us luck!

Congrats on the purchase and welcome to the forums.

50's Caravanners are absolutely the best, but I will admit to a bit of prejudice that way. Our trailers have a great floorplan and all those windows make for a great view outside.

cheers,
steve

Hello...

Hi... my wife and I are restoring the '55 Flying Cloud we (still) work on, and did a shell-off floor replacement (which I recommend). Needless to say, everything has to be restored to make it look good and function well again, windows especially. Also, you will want to replace the axle if it is original. Take a look at my pics at: http://www.airforums.com/photos/brow...00&userid=5200. Contact me anytime if you need advice/help.

congrats on your new as

ED and Lynne

Congrats on your new caravanner, I looked at it also, a beautiful old gal with unique serial # last one made that year if I remember correctly. full restoration probably but well worth it, great skin. Beyond my skill level unfortunately. I bought a 64 tradewind covered in silicon but picking at that is my skill level! Please put original taillights back on!

Keep me posted on progress

Welcome. You have found a wonderful trailer. The thirteen panel end caps are terrific. Looks like there are more of us in Southwest Florida than I realized. Does anyone know what taillights would be correct? Would 1956 pre-date Bargman 99's?

These are the original tail lights on our '56 Safari...which I cleaned up & re-built

Bargman No. 9's

Most of the parts are available at VTS.

Replaced the tail light on my 55 Safari back to Bargman No.9 Trim Rings, bought the trim rings from Vintage Trailer Supply - Vintage travel trailer parts and supplies! with No. 6 lens also from vintage trailers. Found the housing from
Tractor Supply Company - Combination Stop/Tail/Turn Light which is a perfect fit.

lucky remind me in about a week or two. ours is cute as can be, that is why we bought her. We have a toilet but no shower and only a black tank. We have a fixed almost queen bed in the back and we have a huge dinette up in the front. Hubby is not fond of drycamping so with our gal we keep dry camping to a mininum. Come to mardi gras we will be there. In the meantime remind me and i will add photos.
Have fun! they are a perfect size We live near the ocean the shine is good after a few months. if you google 56 Caravanner one done by David winnick will pop up. That one is very nice , more vintage retro, ours is like a beach cottage.

Awesome! I tried to get my cousin to buy that trailer!! Good to see it's found a good home. Good luck! Maybe I'll see it one day at a rally!
