Your beginning point should be to make it "weather proof".

Check all the exterior gaskets, for wear and/or cracks, check for missing rivets, etc.

Thanks for all the wonderful comments! This is a great forum all ready! If you can assist in locating an overhead cabinet the PO removed that would be great.
