New members seeking RV adventures

Hello all, we are Mary and Blair Buchanan from Ottawa, Canada and we just purchased our first, and hopefully last, Airstream trailer. She's a 2017 International Serenity 30 from CanAm RV in London. We've spent many years aboard our 35 Tartan yacht "Strathspey", cruising the eastern seaboard, the Bahamas and Cuba, so we have understand the lifestyle from a certain perspective, but we're new to land-based cruising. We hope to meet fellow travellers and share stories. See you on the trails!

Welcome. We had good experiences with Can-Am when we lived in Ontario, and also camping on nearby Lake Huron: The Pinery and MacGregor Point provincial parks.

Our Airstream has been ordered and will be delivered in the spring. We will pick it up in June and spend the summer familiarizing ourselves with it at a rv site on the Mississippi near Appleton. Our tow vehicle is a 2017 Audi Q7. Our plan is to spend the winters cruising the Bahamas and the summers in the rv, mostly in Canada, to avoid the IRS issues. We're not campers, so it looks like we'll be at sites where we can get services, spend a week or two, cycle and hike, then move to the next site. That's the plan for now, but it can all change once we get going. We have a few friends who have introduced RVing to their lives and they report good news.

A Scotsman skilled at sea should have no issues tackling RV life. There is no need to select sites with "services" as you'll soon discover it is just a variation on anchorage so wander freely. Energy management isn't as complex as boating, your fix-it talents slightly less tested, a weather eye meagerly used, roads are labeled, and galley space is comparatively expansive. You'll have more space for moving about inside on foul weather days, the bed has open sides, guitars are welcome fireside by most neighbors, but store the bagpipe aboard Strathspey

Like I said, it can all change once we get going. Our appetite for the pelagic life has ebbed after spending six months circumnavigating Cuba. So many systems to manage and maintain - Diesel engine, dinghy motor, RO system, dual battery banks with solar panels, radar, AIS, sat com, VHF, SSB, yada yada. Every can and will break. However, going "pelagic" in a land yacht may be easier in many ways to be discovered. Your encouragement is a welcome boost! For that, and upon meeting you, I will skirl my way through Amazing Grace, forgoing my standard fee of $50 for that tune.
