New member with an '81 Excella and '65 Caravel

Hello forum members,
I have had the pleasure of owning a 1981 Excella since 2003. We purchased this Airstream after visiting the Vintage Open House at the 2003 International Rally in Vermont and I have enjoyed using it as my beach house at Jersey Shore Haven for the past two summers.

Our first Airstream was a 1962 Sovereign purchased in 1975 with our wedding gift money. We lived in that trailer full time for one and one half years while attending college and then sold it for $200 less that we paid for it. It was a wonderful, inexpensive alternative to the dorms or college apartments.

I recently purchased a '65 Caravel 17' to fix up and use for traveling. Just writing that sentence brings on a huge smile My first goal is to get it tow ready and then I will begin to work on the other systems as cash becomes more available. I welcome any advice or experiences that anyone wants to share as this is my first restoration project and I have a ton to learn.

I also need to buy a tow vehicle and I am thinking about the '08 Toyota Highlander. Comments welcome...

Thanks in advance!

Hi Beachcomber and welcome to the forums!
We have been to Chester, Vermont (for a wedding) and I would imagine it is a beautiful place to live. How is Jersey Shore Haven?? We just bought a new to us 62 Bambi and I am thinking about a spot for it next summer. I want to drive down to Jersy Shore Haven this summer and check it out. I hope you enjoy your Caravel as much as we are enjoyig our new one. It's in the back yard getting spruced up and fixed up for a maiden voyage hopefully in September. Maybe we'll see you in Dennisville. Anyway, this is a great spot to ask and learn. Check out the "search" feature at the top of the page (blue line). This is a very helpful feature which will search out previous threads about specific topics you search for. Good luck with the Caravel.

Hello Dudebb,
I have been absent from the Forum for quite a while. I just read (or reread?) your reply post and I am wondering if you ever went down to Jersey Shore Haven. I have a seasonal site there and would love to introduce you to the campground if you have not been there yet. It is a wonderful, quiet place, especially compared to the other Jersey Shore campgrounds. There is now a website...

I will be there from July 29th to August 14th but you would be welcomed by everyone anytime. Be sure to ask for a site in the trees, not the rally field. I will also be taking a quick trip down July 17-21 with a run up to Villanova on the 21st to see family before heading back to Vermont. I lived in Drexel Hill and Devon before moving to Vermont 24 years ago.

Was the wedding in Chester, VT for someone who lives here or a destination wedding? It is a beautiful area and I love living here...most of the time.
