1st. time owner of a 64 trade wind, land yacth 24'. fair to good on the out side. inside need some tender loving care and rework. This one also was saging in the rear. supports are rusted, floor rotted out and toilet needs to be replaced. we're in for the long haul. wish us luck.

Welcome!

Hi,
I can relate, I have gone through all those repairs. This forum is the best place to assist you. Do not hesitate to ask, I could not have rebuilt my vintage Globetrotter without the assistance fellow aluminators have provided. Where are the pictures?

Greetings tommyt!

Welcome to the Forums and the world of Vintage Airstream ownership!

In many ways, the 1964 coaches marked the end of an era of Airstream design. Several features were seen for the last time on the 1964 coaches:
  • Door-Within-A-Door -- this was the final model year for this feature as the entry door and screen door would become separate units in 1965 and remain that way through the present.
  • Jalousie Windows -- this was the final model year for this feature. While it is a feature that you'll either love or hate, it was in its last model year (personally, this was one of the reasons why I was attracted to my coach as my first SunWay RV in 1969 had all jalousie windows).
  • Power converters for individual appliances -- this feature was in its last year as the Univolt was poised to take over providing power for these devices that included the roof vent fan motors, furnace fan motor, range hood vent fan motor, and water pump motor.
There was one first for the 1964 coaches and that was the inclusion of a Univolt as standard equipment which meant that all interior lights are of the 12-volt variety.

Good luck with your TradeWind!

Kevin

P.S.: If your Trade Wind is a single axle, this would also mark the last year that the Trade Wind didn't have tandem axles as standard equipment.

I feel your pain, the photo is of a 64 tw, definitely need to provide more support to the area under the c- channel in the center of the frame. More hold down points will help w/rear end sag.

Hey kev you forgot one; last year for zolatone paint!

Good luck take pictures.

Good catch! I nearly always overlook that fact . . . the second owner of my Overlander decided hospital green enamel paint was preferable to the more subdued tan Zolatone in my Overlander. Even with a sponge painting technique that approximates the Zolatone, I still miss the original Zolatone that I remember from when my coach was new.
