Hello, My name is James. I just recently bought a 1978 Argosy 24' twin. It was my grandfathers and a family friend bought it after he passed. I'm wanting to remodel it and hopefully keep it around and in the family for some time to come. I've looked everywhere for any info on where I should start to get this remodel going and every page I found kept bringing me here so I figured I might as well become apart of the group.

Glad you’re keeping it in the family. You’ll get a lot of information here. If you haven’t already, scroll down to the bottom of the page, you will see “Sitemap”. Click on that to open. Go down the column until you see “Argosy Trailers”. Hit that and start reading the posts. This will give you a bit more insight on what you’ll be embarking on.
There are steps to take in analyzing the trailer to determine what works and what doesn’t. Is the subfloor solid? Does all the electrical work? How about the chassis? Is it rusted? Leaks around the windows? It’s a big project to renovate. But you eat an elephant one bite at a time. Determine what shape it’s in and start a renovation thread. You’ll get lots of help. Good luck

Welcome to the forum, James. Per Bubba's suggestion, here is that Argosy trailer sub-forum:

For a good overview of a recent "shell off" renovation, Eric's "The Love Shack" thread, for his 1977 Argosy 27D, is a well-documented, as well as humorous, tour through the minefield IMO.

Have fun and good luck!

Welcome from Colorado and welcome to the vintage Airstream hobby. The Argosy was a special Airstream in the 70s. A bit smaller, lighterweight, and the "test bed" for improvements, like the painted body, the big panoramic windows in front (still used today) and innovative floor plans that many people liked. Your family trailer is worth a thorough renovation. Although it is a lot of work and expense.

If you renovate it into a solid and tasteful Argosy, it will likely be worth more than your initial cost and your expenses in parts and materials. But not likely your labor at $10 an hour. We vintage Airstream enthusiasts work cheap.

I know its going to have to gutted completely. It's had a small leak around the air conditioner for some time now. I landed it for only 600 since it was my grandfathers so i got a lucky start there on the expense portion. Thanks for the tips and links I cant wait to share my experience with the group.
