New member! 1964 Ambassador.

My wife and I just purchased this 1964 airstream in a small trailer park. Found it in Southern California in middle of the desert. Small place place called Palo Verde, CA. My wife and I plan on restoring her back to its former glory. She needs a lot of work and money. Pick it up for $500. Drove it up to Vegas. Now the adventure begins!

Okay she looks intriguing from the outside what does she look like inside? Looks like an interesting and long term project but at least rain outs are not that common in your area.

Somebody liked white paint, must have been on sale!! What a shame... You got it for a good price though.

Short answer is what does the frame and floor look like then I enlarged the picture wow looks like a tough way to go but you can do it. If the frame needs just a little touch up then I would gut it remove most of the inner skins update the wiring and insulation with prodex (solar thing in the oven you live in)! Then make it your own design! But please do keep us in the loop with pictures and commentary. No need to include the er visits or prognosis cause it will either grow back or you did not need it anyway!

Well when we purchased the trailer the registration said 1963. However after further investigation I believe it is a 1964. I have updated my profile to show a 1964. more pictures to come soon!

I plan on removing all of the interior and floor to inspect frame. From what I can see from the rear access there is some good rusting on the frame. Depending on how bad it is I may just take the whole body off the frame and rebuild it. But new electrical and pluming are a must. I plan on keeping the trailer for a long time. Should make many memories for my wife and 3 boys.

Thank you for posting the pictures and although it has been left to die in the trailer park you have the motivation to bring it back to life! Take pictures until you run out of memory then buy some more and take more pictures! Use the 62overlander method of floor template before pulling any up it will save you so much frustration in the end. He does it for a living and is good so to is the one referred to the top. 62overlander has a blog that may come in helpful. We are here if you have any questions and although I am not a pro I have my scars and have bleed on many different grades of aluminum! The areas I have found problem areas are the floor by the door the floor in the back. I increased the aluminum under the floor over the step to include the outriggers on either side of the steps and made a bigger shield for the floor in the back so the water drips to the belly pan and not to the wood. Just saying and again looks to be a fun project enjoy!
