New in Austin, TX

Hi everyone,

I just bought a 2015 Bambi. I love it! So far it is parked under a carport, so I have only gone carport camping. Guess I should learn how to hook it up since I forgot everything they showed me. I have to admit, I am afraid to pull it. (Obviously I had it delivered.) Surely I will get over that fear?

I started with a 28' and drove it from the dealer to the campsite myself- across a 2 mile dam with a narrow road and close guard rail.

I know what you mean-I'm taking ours out soon for the very first time on my own and even though I've practiced everything with my husband (who has been doing all the past two years' tows/hitches)- it is unnerving! I've made sure to get pull-throughs at every site, but it's the gas stops that make me feel the most unsettled since it's hard to predict with the traffic flow how tight my turns are going to be getting in and out.

Hi Shelly and welcome to the forums. You will do just fine.

My wife and I and some other Airstream friends will be camping the weekend of August 8th at the Roadrunner RV Park in Johnson City, TX. We will all arrive on Friday. You are more than welcome to join us for the weekend. We have no solid agenda other than to get together. If you would like to join us send me a PM and I will give you more info.

What is your tow vehicle?
Is it set up with weight distribution and anti-sway?

Just do it, go slow, and it helps to have a "spotter" with you for the first couple of pulls. Did you buy it from Camper Clinic II in Buda? If so, they would probably give you a little refresher instruction. Might want to take iPhone photos or videos this time. You can also search YouTube. There are several series of "how to" videos on there about RV'ing.

Shelly,

Keep in mind that none of us came into this world knowing how to tow. I think the previous and gracious offer to join other local Airstreamers is a great idea. And you might think about just towing somewhere close (think Pecan Grove??) just to try out hooking up, towing, camping etc.

You will do fine - and welcome aboard!

Welcome! I'm parked up in Georgetown (working in Round Rock) and the weekend bug hits hard! What are you pulling your bambi with?

Wow, everybody is so nice! I might have to turn this into a dating site. Just kidding. I will be pulling it with a 2007 Chevy Tahoe. Yes, I bought it at Camper Clinic II in Buda and they were great. My brother-in-law is going to help me learn to pull it since they have a camper. So, hopefully I will be on the road soon and can try to meet up with some people. I will work on getting some pictures. Oh, and did I mention I am now obsessed with pink flamingos. I may have overdone it with pink flamingo decor.

I guess we should document the travels of Tryphena and Tryphosa (the birds).
In these photos, they are in Texas, Mississippi, and Florida.

One can never have too many flamingos. Ask some folks about the flamingo decorating contests at some of the rallies!!
