New Guy big project

I just picked up a 1966 Safari. It's a real fixer upper, no windows or door! Ouch I bet I'm going to have a fun time finding a door. Oh well it's a father son project so it should be fun.

Hey Jon, welcome from the southside. You've come to the right place. You should be able to find answers to most questions and loads of info by using the search function above.

Hi Jon and welcome aboard.
Replacement window panes are not hard to find if your frames and your bank account are ok. You can buy Lexan replacements from Inlandrv.com or you can buy glass replacements from vintagetrailersupply.com. Alternatively. you might check with a local glass repair shop to see if they can cut you some Lexan panels. If you go that route, be aware that the cut has to be very precise. I once had to return two panels that were off by a small fraction and would not fit. Plexiglass is not a suitable long lasting replacement.
I have a door that might very well be the one you need. It's from a '68 Ambassador. It appears to be the same as on a '66 Safari but we would have to confirm all the dimensions. I might also have a spare rear window (synthetic). Contact me via PM for details if you wish.
Good luck with your new project.

Hi Jon;

Welcome to the great world of Airstream Renos...

it should be a great project for you and your son - if you have patience to wait for the parts - half the fun will be hunting them down.

Speaking of which another new member housebg - just posted - and in their post they mention someone that he just bought parts off - from a wrecked Airstream - maybe it is your lucky day? Or better still that housebg was spared in their accident to make a new friend in Airstreaming.

You could send them a PM to see if you can get more info on the trailer they mention.

I also saw a "parts" trailer recently on e-bay - but just looked and the door is missing too - why it might even be the trailer you just bought

Good luck with your reno.

Good luck, let us know if you have any questions. I have a near original and can help out as I know it pretty intimately by now!

Hello, and good luck with your project! I don't have the link, but within the last day or so I saw a door for an Airstream on ebay for sale. They said it was for early 60's... not sure the hinges looked like the one on our 55 Flying Cloud. Anyway, you might check it out too!
