New Globetrotter 21 Owner & Forum Member
Greetings,
I lost my Jayco 21' last summer to a flash flood in SE MN and vowed to never leave my camper in a stationary setting again, especially by a river! I wanted something I could keep at home and tow and go on demand.
Found a 1976 21' Globetrotter from a gentleman in Chicago and we agreed to meet halfway in Wisconsin to consumate the deal. He did a lot of foundational type work - replaced brass plumbing with pvc, gel cel battery, new Firestone tires & brakes, new toilet, went through the electrical - in short she is mechanically correct. The interior was another story.
So far we pulled out the mauve carpeting and replaced with a Dupont laminate flooring. We pulled out the kitchen counter, table and trim and replaced with a more modern laminate material. I'm in the process of taking off the wallpaper on the luann boards (very time consuming) and will replace with a laminate as soon as I get it off. The bathroom sink and tub were faded so I bought top side paint at the local Marine store (has epoxy in it) and have repainted the faded fiberglass areas - looks great.
In 1996 a previous owner had Airstream in Ohio install a Dometic Air Conditioner and it has a water leak when it rains - I purchased a new gasket from Dometic and plan to re-install soon. Pulled out the (4) speakers and bought new 3 way speakers and a new am/fm dvd deck and flatscreen tv.
Removed slip covers from cushions (replaced in the mid 80's) and gave them a good wash at a commercial laundry. Did the same with the drapes.
It's coming together.
A couple questions - the previous owner carried the spare tire in the back of his truck - can anyone of you recommend a specific spare tire carrier brand that I can mount beneath front of the airstream? I have a service manual which outlines how to cut out an area that will facilitate a spare tire cover. I wonder why the "cadiallac" mfg. of travel trailers left off a spare tire carrier?
I have the original hitch, that rides a little high behind my Durango and plan to have my Equalizer tow hitch installed.
This is where I am at to date. Should be nice when she's all put back together. Ken
