New from Texas: '71 Safari "Tennessee" 23ft.
My wife and I just purchased our first Airstream and our first RV. As a young child my Great-Grandfather had several Airstream's and so I was a little partial to them when I began my search for one. This site has been a wealth of information and I use it frequently. Anyway, just wanted to stop by and introduce myself.
Oh, I do actually have a question, can anyone tell me about the blue Tennessee letters that are on both sides on my AS.

Bill and Beverly:
Welcome to Airstreaming and to the Forums from fellow Texans. I know you are going to have lots of fun and adventures. Be watching for details on the next Texas Vintage Rally to be held May, 2011, in Glen Rose, Texas (southwest of Ft Worth). You'll not want to miss that since you have a Vintage trailer.
I'm sorry, I can't help you with the identity of your "Tennessee" letters. Post a picture and I'm sure someone will be able to help you.
We belong to the Texas Highland Lakes Unit of the WBCCI and have a Buddy Rally scheduled for next month in Fredericksburg, Texas. We would love to have you join us. Please feel free to contact us if we can answer any questions or help you in anyway.

Photo of the "Tennessee" Letters.
Here is the curb side of my Safari, with the blue plastic raised letters I was referring too.
Thanks for the welcome...

Obviously those letters are some kind of horrible spelling error. I can see faint outlines of similar letters faded into the blue stripes on the side of my Excella, and they definitely spell "TEXAS." I can't imagine how you got all those extra letters.
Welcome to the forums. Nice looking trailer. Now we need some interior photos!

Hi, Welcome to Airstreaming from a fellow Texas Vintage Airstreamer. For a quick indocternation into Airstreaming, VAC and dry camping you may want to check out the upcoming "Lone Star VAC Campout" May 7-9. Its listed in rally section of the forums.
Nice looking rig,

stratguysrv,
Welcome to the forum. Don't believe anyone has actually answered your question about the "Tennessee" on the side of your trailer, the previous owner most likely was from Tennessee. It's a common thing for Airstream owners, especially WBCCI members, to put the name of their home state on the side of their trailers.

So the owner put that on? I wonder where they got the letters, I plan on joining WBCCI and would like to "How would you say" change its residency to the Lone Star state.
Thanks for the welcome and the info.

Yes, most likely. Hopefully they are installed with double sided tape, and so would be easily removed with something like a hair dryer, or heat gun, but not too hot. You should be able to get stick-on letters anywhere signs and such are sold. Think mail box signs.

The letters you see on mine are not stickers but actually molded plastic about a 1/4" high. thats what was so curious about them.

I've seen one with "INDIANA" on the side. Might have something to do with a special model Airstream came out with that year....or maybe a "statehood series" of trailers.

Greetings from the Florida Panhandle
First off, welcome to the Forums. We're glad to have you with us.
We have seen several Airstreams with the home state of the owner displayed on the trailer. This is something that would have been done by the owner using vinyl die cut lettering which is very durable and easy to apply.
Here are some pictures of our Lucy with her custom graphics that SuEllyn applied hereself. Lucy's lettering has been there for several years and still looks like brand new.

You want to get to know the airstreamers from Texas we were there about a year ago and they were the nicest bunch of people. Even though we are from Michigan they made us feel at home welcome to the airstream life.
