New (but not new)

Hello all,

I'm back to this forum. I originally joined in 2004 when I started restoring my parent's 1975 23' Safari. I documented the stripping and polishing process on this forum, and was impressed to see that thread still being active, and stickied at the top to boot!

Fast forward 20 years, and my parents have finally decided to live in a condo next month, so custody of the Airstream is now passed on to us. Today the roads were clear and dry so I pulled her out of their back yard, through an icy back alley, and off to an RV storage place near my house. Storage place was also icy AF with frozen ruts in the laneways, and it took us 45 minutes to carefully back her into the stall.

She's going to need some TLC, so I'll be trolling the forums looking for input. Wheel rims are leaking air, and some of the lesser used Tambour doors are sticky. I also need a better winterization pump setup.

Alberta in January! If snow doesn't get cleared, ice is the result.

Do you need new tires? Or are the original steel wheels failing from rust? I'm wondering if you could find used 15" alloy trailer wheels (zero offset) from folks switching to 16s? The Safari's GVWR is probably only 5600 lbs, so you don't need heavy-duty tires.

She got new tires last summer. She's an odd duck 23' with a single axle, so has LT (8 ply?) tires. The rims are alloy (possibly OEMs), and have leaked for years. I think they have gotten a bit porous.

I'll have to figure out how to post some pictures.

Welcome back.
She’s a great looking trailer! I’ll bet the inside will look as good as new in no time.
