New Airstreamer

We just purchased our first Airstream 2022 Caravel 22FB yesterday. My Great Uncle and Aunt had one for years (1970's/1980's) so I was interested in getting one now that I am just a few months from retiring. Looking forward to some local weekend trips this year to get started.

Greetings from Colorado: You have a nice Airstream for towing in the mountains, so plan a trip out west. America has so many scenic places to visit.
We have a 1969 Globetrotter 21' that I have renovated. Smaller Airstreams have been popular through the years as enjoyable "base camps" at the destination location, easy to tow and maneuver. See photo below. Enjoy your new Airstream, I'm sure you will.

I am sure that you are going to enjoy your Caravel, and before you know it, you will have been enjoying decades of road trips with your trusty Airstream! While it seems just like yesterday, it has been nearly 30 years since I towed my 1964 Airstream Overlander Land Yacht International home and nearly 23 years since I towed my 1978 Argosy Minuet 6.0 Metre home.

The best advice that I might offer is to consider joining the Wally Byam Caravan Club International (WBCCI)/Airstream Club International (ACI) along with your nearest local Unit. Membership has many advantages, but one of the first is a good means of meeting other Airstream owners in your area, and among these owners you will not only find camaraderie, you are also likely to find someone who either owns or has owned an Airstream very similar or identical to yours who will be thrilled to answer any questions that you may have. Your local Unit will also have monthly activities year round with camping activities during the warmer months and social activities during the winter months. When traveling, you are welcome to attend the rallies and activities of other Units on a space available basis, and there are always the Regional, National, and the annual International Rally (to be held in York, Pennsylvania this year). In addition to the rallies, there are Caravans organized by fellow members who have taken Caravan Leadership Training, where you will often see and do things that aren't always available to solo travelers, and in my experience have always been a great value for what you receive. I found the benefits to be great enough that I became a Lifetime member in 2005.

Good Luck with your Caravel, and Safe Travels!

Kevin
